Do you do do?

Post by Bob Jefferson » 15 Jun 2008, 11:43

If so, then please cut it out. I hate the consecutive occurrence of the word 'do' in a sentence, as in:

"Do squirrels climb trees?"

"Yes, they do do that."

If anyone in our family do-dos they are ritually humiliated. We are all a bit sensitive to this sort of thing. My son is uncomfortable with the double 's' in words like newsstand, while my daughter doesn't like what she considers to be double plurals like 'peoples' and 'moneys'. She won't have 'mightn't it' either.

Minds me of Harry Enfield's Scousers
"they do dough dont they dough"

My mum had a thing about missing apostrophies. There was a sign put up near her that said " CHILDRENS PLAY AREA " I was dispatched with a marker to put in the missing apostrophy
