As a a newcomer to Portobello in my first Christmas here could anyone advise if the is a light 'switching-on' ceremony or do the council just switch them on? I noticed that one of the lights was on outside the town hall last night and it got me wondering.
Any help you could give would be great.
Thanks

I'm not aware of the existence of any such ceremony, though I may well be wrong. It's a nice idea and one perhaps that the Community Council ought to consider. I remember , several years ago, when St Philip's was fund raising, we had a torchlight parade behind Santa's sleigh, from Joppa along the High Street. There was also a band. It was really good fun .
Wonder who we could ask to switch on our lights? How about Gail Porter, especially for Bob?
