That's a real shame.
I PM'd a mod yesterday after the title of the thread was changed (to "lets see how high we can count until this thread gets deleted") and got no reply back.
I'm struggling to see which rule this thread broke.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to explain where the thread went and why.
Ooooh - look - I'm on 2933 posts

The rules say that discussions can be as trivial as we like.

Someone has maybe complained about the frivolous nature of the thread. personally, I found it educational and fun.
Seriously, how was it any different to, say, the two word story threads?

Sorry, I was getting a bit carried away there. That would be ridiculous, wouldn't it?
And a bit sad.

Get over it, girlfriend!!
Why should the 2000th post be any more important than, say, number seven?

The thread was removed as it was simply a 'post pumper'. It is normal practice on forums not to allow such threads as they devalue rankings.

Rankings? Devalue? Post pumping? The?
I'm well and truly lost here.
It was surely a bit of nonsense fun. Do you really believe that people worry about rankings on here?

That may well have been a side-effect, but it wasn't my original intent when I created the thread, Marya.
If you want to devalue my ranking, feel free to zero my post count if you want, I could care less.
I'll happily de-register and sign on under a new, or this, name if that's the only way of getting a zero post count.

It was intended to be nonsense fun. However, all things on POL seem to become political. So be it I say.

You surprise me Dadaist. A seasoned user of forums and you haven't come across post pumping?
On the subject of rankings I've thought for a while now that they should be altered to reflect the greater number of regular users and the high number of posts individuals have now achieved. That obviously doesn't mean putting everyone back to zero but shifting the numeric goalposts a bit.
Oh and this is talkPorty not POL.

I think I'd heard of it but no, I've never seen it jackbooted before this episode.
I'm very happy to disappoint you, Marya. I wouldn't say I was a seasoned user, maybe just lightly dusted with nutmeg.
You gotta love it here on POL.

Thought I'd bump this thread to the top as it's the one that survived the cull as currently debated in the "Thanks" thread

You should all lay off the beans - all this pumping while posting.
What on earth is post pumping anyhow, or do I really want to know?
Maybe we should have a glossary thread to explain these things to newbies like me.

I like that idea pb.

I might work on one. (Of course, equally, I might not, but I do like the idea...
