Desert Island Disc

Post by Porty » 29 Jul 2007, 04:33

I know they are not a band in the recognised form but they have a core and are a collective of many of the outstanding session musicians of this, and any other time. If i were ever invited on to desert island discs but the trade off was I could only have one track instead of the 8 that more famous are allowed,I would choose Peg, its unequivocal. It better feature at my funeral.

If I was allocated 8 tracks, the knee-jerk temptation would be to take the entire Aja album and perhaps Kiss out of Prince. But that would mean leaving behind Say Hello Wave Goodbye out of Soft Cell and The Story of the Blues out of Wah. It would mean leaving behind the entire Radiohead discography, I would not take the entire Aja album at that cost.

I like the party game where you are asked to name your favourite book, film and album. But you are only allowed 15 seconds to do all 3. it does make you focus and cuts to the chase.

Imagine the Doc visits your home. you are lying near the favoured part of your music collection and he gives you 25 seconds to live but there will be a hi-fi or mp3 system in the beyond, what would you reach for?

Excellent choice.

I can't believe you didn't give Brucie a mention or Steely Dan come to think of it.

En-Tact by The Shamen

if it had to be the last thing I ever listened to.

But for the desert island, I'm stuck between En-Tact and Selected Ambient Works 85-92 by Aphex Twin

If it was me it would just have to be:
"Why did you do it" - Stretch
"Pusherman" - Curtis
"No Surprises" - Radiohead
"Grandma's Hands" - Bill Withers
"May you never" - John Martin

It's just that the band wasn't mentioned by name anywhere in the intial post. Some folks might not be familiar with the track "Peg".

Everybody knows that music attained perfection with "The Touch" by Stan Bush. I mean, if I've only got 25 seconds to live then I may as well get in touch with my inner Optimus, right?

Um, I'd have thought an English teacher would have figured out it's called Insomnia...

"Ripping off tights with my teeth"...what a line.
All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!
