I see that organ donation is in the news at the moment http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/news/ ... _page.html What do people think about the idea that registration should be made compulsory and that if you do not want to donate you have to opt out?
I used to have a card that I carried with me at one point but it seems to have disappeared. However, it just occurred to me that it might be possible to register online. Using Google I found this and signed myself up https://www.uktransplant.org.uk/ukt/how ... onsent.jsp

I've had a donor card as long as I can remember.
It seems to me it should be that we should opt out if we have any objections rather than opt in.
I've always discussed the idea of organ donation with my family, granted it can seem morbid but not being of the belief that I need to keep everything in canopic jars for the next life I cant see any objection for someone getting a use out of me when I go.

Ideally it would be nice to have the 'opt out' option. However, there are some people that would disagree. Perhaps there is a religious reason or simply because they feel that their freedom is being eroded. However, perhaps the reason that there is a 'crisis' is simply down to complacency. I'm sure that we all hope that it will never happen to us and hopefully it won't. However, as we all know, there are no guarantees in this life. If that is the case then why shouldn't we sign up?

I had to buy a special case for all the cards I have to carry around. Half of them I've never used: Tesco card, donor card.....Scorpion wrote:

I've carried a card for years and I think at some time I did register somewhere. Anyway, for the record they can have as much as they like that might be useable . I agree that you should have to opt out. I would imagine that most of my family would be willing to donate in the event but they just haven't got round to registering or carrying a card and people would probably be more willing to make the effort to opt out if they really disliked the idea of donating. Some people think it is a morbid subject but I always think how it would be if one of mine needed an organ and nobody donated and if the shoe was on the other foot I think I'd take some comfort from the fact that my loved one had saved several other lives.
