Glasgow Airport terror attack analysis

Post by Dadaist » 01 Jul 2007, 19:01

This has got to be the worst fail at a driving test I've ever heard of. You can clearly see the double yellow lines, and anyway it's moot because as soon as the Jeep touched the pavement, it was a major fail anyway.

It remains to be seen if the examiner got a chance to cancel the test due to the pair of them immediately being jumped by the people who are always the first on the scene - and we should praise the lightning speed of the airport traffic wardens in clamping this vehicle, arranging for it to be towed and for issuing a penalty notice so speedily.

Although various security, police and intelligence services will be taking the credit for the swift apprehension of the occupants of the Jeep, we all know that all they had to do was read the address off the penalty notice issued by the airport traffic wardens the very millisecond this vehicle came to a rest in a non-designated parking area - Al Qaeda and its inspirants will never live up to their ruthless efficiency.

I was can I say trapped in Heathrow when this was all coming to light

First we heard it was Glasgow and no planes were leaving,we all went to a TV to find out what was going on and sure enough it was all confirmed.

I had just dropped my son off at terminal 3 he is going to stay with his sister for the summer. Then the panic set in he was on his own, and hubby phoned me to say that Heathrow had been hit at terminal 3

What I went through for about 15 mins until we found out it was a car on fire in the car park and all was fine was terrable. The staff there were fab and somehow got him to a phone so I could speak to him.

I was coming into Edinburgh so the wait then began, first we were told no one was flying anywhere then we were told we were and would be late.

We were about 1hour late which wasn't to bad but we had to walk when we left the airport. So everyone just started walking but we had to find out where the police had sent all the cars that were hoping to meet us,after about an hour I found hubby and then had to wait about another hour before we were on our way home

To think I have to do this again in 5 weeks time to collect him

I think it would be a real pity if the Hospital treating the burned terrorist ran out of morphine today. I would offer to burst his blisters by hand with a non sterile needle for him. Allegedly he was shouting "Allah, allah" but I think it he was really shouting "uya, uya".
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Its a bit of a result for Gogs. He's just in the door and had 3 terrorist incidents and only two injuries.

I watched this unfold on news 24 and as usual the journos were desperate for casualties/deaths.

I saw the funny side when they described how occupants of the terminal started filling in the terrorists. I can just imagine terrorist traning school, the teacher saying,; "look the one place you don't want to come up short on a suicide bombing attempt is Glasgow". In fact it probably the reason its not been hit in the past

I don't know who the other one is but Singe Nacheep's family must feel ashamed.

they did name the other guy - he is called Ahmon Faya.

Word is he's going to use his one phone call to find out if Direct Line will pay out on the 3rd party, fire & theft policy on the Cherokee.

Do you get points on your license for firebombing your motor into an airport terminal?

Yesterday's attack came as something of a surprise to me as I thought Ramavan coincided with Glasgow trades.

The guy is a legend!!!
Only in Glasgow can some guy who sets out on a “holy jihad” and destiny with 84 virgins in paradise end up on fire from head to toe, having a square go with a bystander and getting maced by the police. Get it right up you, mate! lol

pure class!
Those hapless al-Qaeda boys were to find out that Glasgow has no respect for international terrorism. Nobody gets between 10,000 Weegies and a £99 week in Ibiza booked on Thursday night through Barrhead Travel.

I imagine Doctors wouldn't fancy being tortured, given that they would have a good apprecaition of the long-term damage. They are bound to spill the beans more readily than the ornery punter.

I doubt there will be much beans to spill, as they weren't even told how build a car bomb.

Agreed, by the sound of the investigtion so far they have left loads of clues. It seems the police are arresting anyone that has had anything other than passing contact with the Brians.

I don't get all the controlled explosions at the Royal Alexandria - at first I thought they had one because the guy they took there had some sort of belt - but has something else happened?

Could be completely wrong but I thought it had something to do with the guy they arrested on the motorway who was a locum there. They had searched the residences too.

Surely the police are just ensuring that any vehicle/person they can associate with the failed bombers is neutered?

I can understand why they arrested the locum but why Mrs Locum? She's just a shop assistant.

They just showed one of the controlled explosions on Sky - it was on a car near a mosque in Glasgow and was to gain access to the boot.

...maybe you should consider re-phrasing that for fear of insulting "just shop assistants" everywhere

Being "just a shop assistant" does not mean that you cannot also be a terrorist

All 8 suspects have now been linked to the NHS. Maybe its a bizzare way to drum up business? Wouldn't be the first time.

at least the media have a new target - NHS staff

there will be lots of descriptions of someone "reported to be of medical appearance" and "said to be wearing a white coat" etc etc

then they will bring on someone from the GMC to try and explain to the public that this just isn't what medicine is about, and that the moderate majority of doctors find this sort of thing abhorrent

and people will phone in radio shows pointing out that "these doctors" are all a bit suspect

I presume

Its the most devious NHS atempt to generate custom since the 70's, when they allegedly used nursing staff to promote the spread of STD.

We just have to pray the extremist medical receptionists don't decide to take up arms. They are brutal enough without it.

Pretty much, caches of chemicals, plans to attack the prime minister, very hot stuff, but hardly mentioned in our popular press (apart from the burnley local press) at the time of arrest or the original trial.

Think it must be a combination of factors. Theres the question of scale.
The BNP, despicable as they are. have no track record of terrorist activity. Mr Cottage sounds like he is mentally ill. The jury couldn't reach a verdict in terms of the more serious threats. Its not much of a story really.

How about this guy

Genuine nail bomb that time

or this one

and quite a few more here

The founder john tyndall was jailed for 'paramilitary organising'

Maybe not much of a track record, but not too shabby
