Memories of "The Hammie"

We had our wedding reception in there many moons ago!!!

It was then called the Hamilton Lodge Hotel ( shortened to " the hammie"!!)

Ah, I remember the Hammie well.
It was very popular with many PHS pupils back in the day and many started their drinking careers in there.

Used to be a top spot on a Sunday when Jim Bell owned it and pubs couldn't get sunday licences.Think I recall ECM bagging off with someone in there or was it Epykat?

Some time after that it became famous for the landlord complaining that prom users were also using all his toilet roll but not buying his drinks. There was a picture of him in the EN, looking sad, holding some toilet roll centres and bemoaning that they had gone through 27 rolls on one busy sunday. Ian Fergison?

Spent many 'free' periods in there playing pool, there was always an older guy gagging to join in, he used to spit on his 10p and cry 'mugs away!'.

Ooh!! I hope it was me and I hope it was with one of the "Joppa Jobbies"!
For some reason that I never really understood, that was the nickname given to the guys from Joppa who were considered lush back in the mid to late 70s.

We girls used to dream of bagging a jobbie back then.

I worked in the Hammie part time when it was owned by the infamous Jim Bell, one night I was talking as I sliced lemons , obviously not looking what I was doing ,he yelled the lengh of the bar , " do you think they f***** grow on trees !", oh what Hammie stories there are !!!

She mentioned to me last night that her sister held her wedding reception there so wondered if you were Sunnyporty in disguise or if there was some dark mysterious secret that we hadn't been told yet

My two brothers used to be " jobbies"!!!!

She mentioned to me last night that her sister held her wedding reception there so wondered if you were Sunnyporty in disguise or if there was some dark mysterious secret that we hadn't been told yet

With two " jobbie" brothers I always wanted a sister but my Mum and Dad never ever gave me one!!!

( think I was a bad enough shock for them!!!!)

Just to continue the confusion, Mrs Rathbone comes from Linlithgow and most of her family still live there...... so Arachnid could be related.

Not EVERYONE is related to me thank you

And I have never, ever, gotten off with a jobbie - whether it was from Joppa or not

Marya's right though, my sister had her wedding reception there and at one point a load of us took off down the sand (probably a bit tired and emotional - apart from me who was only 11) and had a paddle in the sea.

Nope!Fraid I don't have any family in Linlithgow ( apart from Mr. Arachnid and our darling spiderlings!!!
