more bad news for vegetarians

Post by SoupDragon » 25 May 2007, 13:15

After the Mars Bar fiasco I've been keeping an eye open.
Bought a pot of Asda 4 cheese sauce yesterday, suitable for veggies they say on label. Was about to give some to Baby Dragon for lunch.
Opened pot and I could smell the ham straight away
Tasted it, ham, like carbonara sauce I'd say.
Baby Dragon looked green but at least it hadn't reached her plate.
So phoned them straight away
Got apology
So returned it today, got my money back, and seeing I was there went to get bread and have a wee snoop. They still had it on the shelf!
I know one of the lads working there so told him, his supervisor said she'd heard about it, had checked ( with HQ I asssume ) and was told it was Quorn.
I pointed out quorn wasn't listed as an ingredient. We looked at several pots. some were smooth and meat free and some had the ham lumps. So they then pulled them off the shelves.
Now I'd have thought a big supermarket would have been quicker to act .
Not only is it offensive to vegetarians but what about Jews and Muslims

Asda still has an aisle containing things like rice and pasta entitled 'Foreign Foods', so what do you expect?

The only way round problems/attitudes like this is to start growing your own cheese.

I would imagine that having ham in a vegetarian option in a mass manufactured prepared sauce, readymeal etc is the least of your problems. Stop and have a look at the rest of the ingredients! 8)

Yeah I know what you mean PoP
But it was supposed to be a quick and easy lunch
I'll stick to making my own sauces

Not sure if Mr E has tried that on the allotment. Any idea who does the seeds?
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

I have it on good authority that Mr Lampshade not only is an expert on this subject, but is also the proud owner of a personal cress farm.

What is the secret of his success in this area, I wonder. I would imagine that keeping oneself damp and hot would be essential.
But what else? I bet beer comes into the equation too, somehow.

That is true, although I have delegated responsibility for its upkeep to young Miss Hatstand. She is proving to be a worthy successor, and is particularly keen on the research and development side of the business.
