Mars Bars, Bounty not suitable for veggies

In case anyone missed the info. Masterfoods, the makers of Mars Bars, Bounty etc have changed their recipie and now included whey which has rennet in it. This may not bother the meat eaters but I now know some very grumpy vegetarians
They didn't tell the press or public but the news is out now.
I cant find anything on their website as it was under review

It was an odd and random thing to do! I've heard growlings already...

Was it linked to the subsequent theft of flakes yesterday? I love the last paragraph of the report, as though there was a normal Flake seller!

A lorry-load of Cadbury's Flake bars worth about £140,000 has been stolen.

The trailer full of the chocolate bars was towed away from outside a dairy on Siding Lane, near Kirby, Lancashire yesterday evening.

Police believe a white Scania tractor unit was used to take the container from outside Fredericks Dairies, the company employed by the chocolate firm to make its branded ice creams.

Police are asking people to be wary of buying the chocolate from people on the street and to report any suspicious Flake sellers to officers.

I think that if I was going to take the principled step of embracing vegetarianism, I'd also consider lifestyle change in other areas and would most probably buy a fairly traded chocolate bar instead of one from a corporation such as Mars.

Masterfoods now have the pages up
They have a statement that the rennet in the whey they use is like that in cheese " which many vegetarians eat" !
In this house the vegetarians look carefully at the cheeses they eat, there's certain ones they wont touch
I just feel that Masterfoods have a cynical and sneaky approach to the introduction of the whey

Baby Dragon had some Easter eggs left over ( such restraint) and has now put the lot in the bin ( this may explain why she's a tiny size 8 and I'm not )

Cadbury still seem to do a lot of veggie stuff

Personally I am much more worried by their answer (actually it is a non-answer) to the following question:

Do you have Trans fats in your products?

Spoken like a true global concern that puts product shelf-life over consumer health.

It's the same in this house. We only eat cheese that is suitable for vegetarians. No animal rennet for us

er, i think you're ok with any stuff with a best before date of 1st October. So you can get them out of the bin.

The thought had crossed my mind Nelson

Inspired by Rapunzell I'm going to try making some chocolate gingers

I had a look in the fridge and all our cheese is veggie friendly. I do occasionally buy mr Soupy some that are not veggie but warn those bothered by such things
I find it a lot easier these days to find out what is vegetaran and what isn't as most brands either write "suitable for vegetarians " , use their own symbol or use the vegetarian society symbol
We have a mixed house with 2 veggies, 2 "eat anything that doesn't eat us", 1 lapsed veggie and 1 flirting with it ( thats me )

When Mr Soupy lived in Australia one firm boasted their pies were 30% meat!

Haven't seen Baby Dragon yet this am but I doubt she'll stop her boycott.

I did make some home made chocolate gingers. Not quite up to Rapunzel's standards but good all the same.
No one warned me that they evaporate very quickly.
At least that's what I was told by the kids when I asked where they all gone

I did wonder if it was an advertising gimmick
But when i first heard the rumours I checked their website and the info page was being "updated"
I thought that was a cynical way to deal with the deep seated beliefs that some people hold. Also the remark, now off their website, about vegetarians eating their products being the same as eating cheese, was so ill informed that I dont know where to start with that.
So if it is advertising, its backfired in our house, as Baby Dragon will not eat any of their products now ,( not that she ate much of them to begin with)

Excellent! They are very prone to evaporation, it's true. And the kitchen pixies eat them during the night, it's a wonder we get any at all...

I bought a big bar of Cadbury's dairy milk this weekend. It hasn't evaporated yet
