Could not make it

Post by Libby » 26 Apr 2007, 00:16

Not been on for a long time but good to see we are all still very active, there was the yearly talent show at Portobello High School this evening and unfortunately i could not make it, which i might ad this is the first time since 1999 that i was unable to attend.

Unfortunately the Hustings which Capacity Building Organized was on tonight as well and i had to make a difficult decision on which one i would go to, so i asked my son and he said i was to go to the Hustings, i was a bit disappointed as he was in the talent show and as he said i have attended every other one.

I am not being biased but my son was Robbed, i got home from the hustings about 9pm and by 10pm i had 57 e-mails from his friends at school saying he was robbed and he should have won.

I told him even although he did not win i was proud of him for just entering and that was enough to let him know in my eyes he was a winner.

I must say i only have one complaint, in November they run a talent show which is "The Battle of the bands" and it is for bands only, yet the same bands enter this one and the majority of the time for the last 8 years it has been a band that has won ( my son and daughter won in one of those years).

Yes the bands are quiet good if you are into heavy metal but when they get a talent show of there own why are they then allowed to re- enter the other show :?: , i might add the bands are in 5th & 6th year and they are taking music as a higher, maybe just me but i think it is so unfair.

Results

3rd Band

2nd Claire Hoorayyyyyyyyyyyyyy well done for Clair :D :D :D

1st Band.

That is my moan for the night so i am off to bed to watch the video of my son again.

Bye the way, he sung, Bobby Darrin's, Rain on my parade 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Take care

Libby, you sound every bit the proud Mum. Also sounds as though you have a talented family if your other kids have won in the past! I am not in the slightest bit musical myself and love the fact that my son is and the confidence it gives him.

I don't know anything about the contest but from memory I think the 'Battle of the Bands' contest is a fairly recent development? Perhaps it would make sense to have two categories in the talent contest, one for individuals and one for group entries?

Sounds as though we'll need to keep an eye/ear out for your son in the future. 8)

That is a shame Libby but overall you got to be proud. :D

You've also done well by highlighting the issues relating to talent and band contests held in the Portobello area, here on Talkporty. I think most of us were unaware of the situation. I feel we have the germ of an Action Group here but I'm struggling for a name.

Portobello Talent Show Action Group doesn't sound specific enough. Anyone got any ideas?

A theme song might be appropriate too. Im amazed that a lot of the more established portobello protest groups have not adapted a well known tune that informs the general public about their organisation.
