Trouble in Bellfield street

Post by Garyw » 13 Jul 2004, 17:09

Hi
New member wondered if anyone else was bothered by the drinking and vandalism at the top of Bellfield street by young people. We have had car damaged with paint and damage to the wall Hence the erection of a large fence. (Thanks to whoever reported this to the council, it really was a temporary measure until I get the railings done). This is besides having young people urinating in the garden and the gener  al noise. I have phoned the police on more occassions than I can remember but would appreciate any tips anyone else has to stop this.

I left Portobello in November 2003 and return in a fortnight or so. From what I've read on this forum in the past half hour or so it would seem to have dengenerated into a harlem of wineos and undesirables.

Can it be true?

It's only natural to moan about the bad things... You'll find Portobello hasn't changed. House prices have gone up, and the development at the foot of Bath Street is still incomplete.

You and me both! My car has been scratched by vandals on numerous occasions while parked on the street. It's just an ordinary wee hatchback, but it seems any car is a fair target. Worst incident was when it was parked (legally) in the car park at Glentress Forest, and someone on a mountain back smashed into the side. At one time, I would have been livid but... what the hey... it's only a car.

Now if I had been able to afford that TR8 that I saw on eBay last weekend.

I also had my car damaged (splattered with paint). The police do their best but I guess nuisance calls are not a priority. It is not all bad but the noise etc does seem to be getting worse.

There seems to have been a paint problem the other week. I noticed a door at the top of Bellfield Lane was splattered as well.
Please don't be put off living here though. We're on the High Street and tend to find it comes in phases with several days or weeks of minor trouble and noise and bunches of teenagers and then for some reason it all calms down again until the next time! :D I don't think it's any worse than anywhere else and probably better than most.

Hey Gary W

I am from West Coast but have lived in Edinburgh for years now. Lived in Porty for nearly a year - I love it, great place to live!
