Sheer Vandalism at 3am

Post by Mate of Marya » 28 Mar 2007, 04:41

I'm sitting here at 4.30am unable to sleep.
At 3am this morning I heard some unusual noises outside our house. I got up, went over to the window to see five hooded teenagers inside our car. They had bent the driver's door back, opened the door and got into the car. One youth was rummaging around in the boot. I knocked on the window and they ran off. I didn't know whether to phone the police or not. I did pick up the phone but changed my mind. Everyone in the house would be wakened and would it be worth it? By the time the police got here the boys would be well away.
This car is a bit of a banger, but how annoying!!!

How crap. Particularly the dilema about calling the police. We had neighbours who chased kids who broke their car window in broad daylight. They were school kids and the neighbours reported them to the school and the police.

For months afterwards their car was attacked and their house too. As you have already worked out; its not worth it. Take the hit and move on.

If you're the parent of a teenage boy, maybe it's worth setting your alarm for 3am and checking that your son's where he should be!

You can call always call the police and not leave a name, if they don't have an accurate picture of what's going on then
they can't do anything about it, and you can't complain if it continues.

In my case that is not neccessary. However, at 4am this morning I had to nobble my 19 year old son who had been sitting at the PC since 7pm. He would still be sitting there now if I hadn't intervened.

What on earth can keep a 19 year old man in front of a PC for 9 hours for God's sake. Had he fallen asleep?

MoM, sorry to hear about your incident. I think Porty makes a fair point in that you could possibly make yourself and your property even more of a target by trying to give chase to the little ****ers.
As for calling the police, you'd probably still be waiting for them to arrive as your family were getting up for brekkie.

Me sorry too - and I agree the police may well not have turned up at all ( ), but the more incidents that are reported the better...

My sympathies M o M.
We had that done to Mr Soupys last car, bending the door is a common way of breaking into a car and it never seems to fit properly again!
The report / dont report is a tricky one.
If reported your insurance premiums may go up but it will build up a picture of the true extent of such crimes.

What a nasty experience MoM. Hope you managed to get through today OK after having such a disturbed night.
Trouble is if you don't report it you don't get a crime report number and if you don't get a crime report number you can't make an insurance claim. It is also the police know where car crime is taking place so they can target resources.

A neighbour once reported some kids doing the same to our car. The police woke us up about 2.30 am and then told us that unless the car was removed from the road and put in a garage they would remove it to their pound as it was 'an unsecured vehicle'. We would then be charged to get it out of the pound!!

I have calmed down now.
Work today was difficult with so little sleep.
The car isn't worth a lot of money.
It is not worth claiming our Insurance and losing our no claims etc.,
The boys only looked about 14/15.
What were they doing out at 3am on a Tuesday evening?
Didn't their parents wonder where they were?

I think my last venture onto this site was to tell of my exact same experience, so I'm sorry to hear about your run-in.I'm still of the opinion that these yoofs need physical punishment...it's the only thing they understand ( I think I claimed I'd punch them in the face, which I stand by, but dont want to re-open that particular can of worms)

Anyway, sitting last night waiting for wedding belles to come on, I heard a commotion outside ( No Lloyd Cole, though) and had wee butchers to see what was what. There was a gang of 50/60 neds & nedettes running up the road shouting the usual crap, then my phone went, it was one of my neighbours suggesting I check out my car was OK as the scum had been tipping cars over outside.Fortunately mine was OK, but someones van wasnt. The police arrived but were virtually powerless.I suggested they check out You Tube today as no doubt one of them will have filmed their 'fun'.

Also, my sister-in-law and neice were roughed up by a similiar group near our new eejdit-magnet known as the fun park last night.I also heard someone was stabbed there last night, but it might be chinese-whispers, i certainly hope so.

There was a nice wreck of a car at the bottom of Kings Road this morning... Had one of the lengths of the metal railing from the back of the LRT depot smashed through its windscreen.

I was awoken at 2:34am this morning by the sound of police sirens. Wonder if they were on their way to see this car...

One of our neighbours had his van windscreen smashed in the other night.
They came by car and someone got a partial reg.
Wouldn't hold my breathe for a conviction though

Old cars are becoming a bigger target due to New car's security being a lot better.

Anyone with an older car should invest in a good steering lock, and or fit a flashing LED as another deterent and obviously remove the face/off CD player etc.

Hope you got your car fixed ok.
