According to the programme last night it's been more than glossed over - it's a political spin in order to keep developing countries from developing. Their evidence regarding the heating up and cooling down of the planet over centuries made a lot of sense to me too. So - it's up the heating by two degrees.........all lights on....... dishwasher and washing machine at the same time......foxy wrote:Totally believe it...and I don't think its just the lastest theories...I think that this is the truth and the truth has been glossed over by speculation and assumptions which have now grown arms and legs

Don't tell me the world's scientific community has got together in a sinister conspiracy to fool people into thinking that our continuing rape of the planet and mindless 'tomorrow can take care of its self' energy consumption will have some kind of unpleasant consequence for the future of mankind? I hate it when they do that.
I remember when Channel 4 used to be a serious broadcaster. Save electricity - turn it off.

The scientific community have been debating global warming for years. Unfortunately it is not an exact science and there has been a lack of data as well as a whole host of factors that may or may not affect climate change. The scientists have been putting together models to show how the climate is going to change in future. However, it is a slow process and they can only become reliable if the quality and quantity of the data is good enough.
There have always been those scientists that would side with those that are happy for us to continue polluting the planet and who argue that the climate changes are caused by other means. I'm sure that the oil, car and air transport industries would be happy to support the views of the channel 4 programme.
However, recently due to increasing evidence, there has been swing in the scientific community which now takes the stronger line that the pollution caused by humans is more than likely contributing to global warming. Therefore, I would tend to believe the majority rather than a small minority who appear to be out of step with everyone else.

Climate change: An inconvenient truth... for C4
It was the television programme that set out to show that most of the world's climate scientists are misleading us when they say humanity is heating up the Earth by emitting carbon dioxide. And The Great Global Warming Swindle, screened by Channel 4 on Thursday night, convinced many viewers that it is indeed untrue that the gas is to blame for global warming.
But now the programme - and the channel - is facing a serious challenge to its own credibility after one of the most distinguished scientists that it featured said his views had been "grossly distorted" by the film, and made it clear that he believed human pollution did warm the climate.
Unfortunately it seems to have made it's way into the Sunday Post now
However, here is quite a good rebuttal http://inthegreen.typepad.com/blog/2007 ... ting_.html

The real global warming swindle

A Channel 4 documentary that claimed global warming is a swindle was itself flawed with major errors which seriously undermine the programme's credibility, according to an investigation by The Independent.
The Great Global Warming Swindle, was based on graphs that were distorted, mislabelled or just plain wrong. The graphs were nevertheless used to attack the credibility and honesty of climate scientists
So they made one up.Mr Durkin admitted that his graphics team had extended the time axis along the bottom of the graph to the year 2000. "There was a fluff there," he said.
If Mr Durkin had gone directly to the Nasa website he could have got the most up-to-date data. This would have demonstrated that the amount of global warming since 1975, as monitored by terrestrial weather stations around the world, has been greater than that between 1900 and 1940 - although that would have undermined his argument.
"The original Nasa data was very wiggly-lined and we wanted the simplest line we could find," Mr Durkin said.
Who swindled who?
There has been a vast amount of back and forth about the recent propaganda film “The Great Global Warming Swindle“. Two things have distressed me: that Channel 4 clearly have no interest in whether they broadcast truth or not; and the number of people prepared to fall for this tripe.
It’s possible to go through and analyse why just about everything they said was wrong or misleading, and I’ll try that in a moment. But if you find that going right over your head, then it may be more convincing to point out that:
They have faked some of their graphs...
...Even C4 admits the graphs were faked: see here for a comparison of the version shown on Thursday and the re-run on Monday. In the “Thursday” version, the data has been stretched from 1988 to 2003 - this is simply and utterly impermissible. But even the “corrected” version is dishonest, since its a very old picture omitting the most recent warming period; compare to up to date data.
C4’s debate on global warming boils over
Right.
Two eminent British scientists who questioned the accuracy of a Channel 4 programme that claimed global warming was an unfounded conspiracy theory have received an expletive-filled tirade from the programme maker.
In an e-mail exchange leaked to The Times, Martin Durkin, the executive producer of The Great Global Warming Swindle, responded to the concerns of Dr Armand Leroi, from Imperial College, and Simon Singh, the respected scientific author, by telling them to “go and f*** yourself”.
Yeah.Last night Mr Durkin apologised for his langauge. “As far as I was concerned these were private e-mails. They arrived when I was quite tired having just finished the programme in time for transmission,” he said.
“Needless, to say, I regret the use of intemperate language. It is so unlike me. I am very eager to have all the science properly debated with scientists qualified in the right areas and have asked Channel 4 if they will stage a live debate on this subject.”
Right.
