Community?
This subject has been mentioned in various other threads. It is liable to become the biggest development in the Porty, if it ever happens? There have been a number of initiatives already in the UK and new Schools are incorporating things like NHS Dental Surgeries and Medical Practices perhaps PHS could do likewise? Locate a Community Centre within the School.
The subject of The Powerleague has also arisen. Why not combine a commercial need with the PE requirements of the School? Flexible sports area used by the School during the day and by the public at other times. St Thomas's has its playing field on the roof of the building. Any suggestions?
PHS- How can we integrate the new School more into the..
Well, we could always start with allowing the kids to BE part of the community instead of moaning at them and putting them down all the time!
I've just been out on a three day trip with 22 2nd years (extremely well behaved and their parents should be proud!
) and on all three days we encountered somebody having a go for no valid reason. It really gets my goat!

More bins will also help - I haven't checked recently, but I was bemused to see one of the seats in Brighton Park gaily attired in tied-on crisp bags etc. Written in Tippex on the seat back was the message, "Please give us a bin." You may disagree with the method of protest, but you can't disagree with the sentiments expressed.
This proposal was tabled by West Lothian Council a few years back, but was unpopular with the workforce. Perhaps someone else can remember more? Why not combine the Public Library with the School Library?
Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of school, parents etc. there will always be a number of kids (and adults) who will leave a trail of litter behind them. Whatever happened to the Government Awareness Campaigns on litter? Did they just not work? It is so frustrating when you go to a country such as Canada and see how litter free we could be. (I heard from a friend that Toronto is often used to substitute for New York in films. On one such occasion the film crew carefully set the scene by scattering large amounts of litter in the street to give it that genuine New York feel, only to return after break to find the locals had tidied it all up!)The kids could do better by respecting the High Street more in relation to litter.

That would be one way of slashing the school roll at Porty!!Dadaist wrote:Don't run after the ball ?Porty wrote: St Thomas's has its playing field on the roof of the building. Any suggestions?
Dragging it back to litter - a council in Sydney (North Sydney) actually took away all litter bins to solve its litter problem - and it worked. Rather than piling litter up at bins that were full people took their litter with them.
But Aussies have been inculcated with the anti-litter message for at least the past 30 years, and it is one of the most visible social skills learnt at an early age - under the slogan of 'do the right thing' - which is better than the half-hearted finger-wagging messages being used in Edinburgh to stop litterers.
