Things we will have on hand next Xmas morning :

1. more than 1 packet of batteries. this means you don't have to take them out of the santa torch and put them in the Early Learning Centre till

2. knife - ELC stuff is welded into the boxes

3. screwdriver

4. move mummy & daddy's presents out of the front room. it's chaos in there.

5. make coffee first

Ah, these things you learn with experience.

The only other tip is if there's something , in the years to come, that requires assembly, start doing it a week before the big day or you will spend Christmas day with fretting kids and frustrated parents looking for that last piece of pony castle/battle cruiser/lateset plastic rip off amongst the discarded wrapping paper.

Oh and enjoy the early morning squeals and 5am start while you can.

For the first time ever, all 4 offspring are asleep and we're the first up.
Doesn't feel like Christmas day, drinking a leisurely, hot cup of coffee

So much for the peace and quiet. Went through for a refill of coffee and bumped into Clanger 2 in the hall. How to describe it? Imagine a wookie vibrating with excitement.

So that's it all over in a flurry of shredded paper.
The boys are off to set up X boxes and wii.

Hint to parents of small kids. a stocking left on the end of the bed will buy another half hour Xmas morning, dont put chocolate in it though ( experience)
We still leave stockings, seems the boys woke at 5, got the stockings then went back to sleep

Or the age of new bikes/ pogo sticks/ skate boards when it's off to the Prom no matter what the weather!

Mine are 21, 19, 15, 13 and they go girl, boy, girl ,boy.
The first Xmas with only 1 around seems very quiet now.
She'd been in hospital (intussusception ) and had her stitches removed Xmas eve so we were taking it easy. Think it was about 3 years old upwards that we got the early morning SANTAS BEEN yells and it continued like that for a few years.

My mum and sis have just gone so we're collecting our thoughts before heading off to Ma and step pa in law.
The wonders of technology mean I've already exchanged greetings with cousins in South Africa and Texas(she was up late being Santa )

parsnips boiled and now in oven chipolatas fried and in oven stuffing sliced and in oven kettle boiled carrots waiting foil off turkey co-op gravy granules spooned out dont laugh we love em just time for me to go in the shower before i come down and boil the carrots

Ours went without disaster this year (so far) but from the sight of the fire engine driving past earlier, I'd guess someone wasn't so lucky with their cooking..

Very belated Christmas Greetings everyone. Just returned from the depths of darkest Herefordshire where I had no connection with the outside world for 4 days

No mobile signal, no tele and no POL

And from me...but I was here, just couldn't be bothered turning on the 'omputer (as youngest bellybaby calls it).

But it was grand - no sudden health emergencies before dinner, no funerals to go to between Christmas and New Year - so all in all the most successful Christmas we've had in a while. *Sigh of relief*.

We had learned long ago the lessons the Dadaist family are learning now so there were lots of batteries, scissors, screwdrivers etc on hand, and the kettle went on before any opening of anything was allowed.
