Songs that made you cry.
Songs that made you cry.
My mum used to sing this to me when I was a kid, I always but always burst into tears when she sang it. I used to beg her to sing it so I could prove that I was over it. It took me til I was about 14. And in truth it still has an effect on me. I have others, whats yours?
THE LITTLE BOY THAT SANTA CLAUS FORGOT
He's the little boy that Santa Clause forgot,
And goodness knows, he didn't want a lot.
He sent a note to Santa
For some soldiers and a drum,
It broke his little heart
When he found Santa hadn't come.
In the street he envies all those lucky boys,
Then wanders home to last year's broken toys.
I'm so sorry for that laddie,
He hasn't got a daddy,
The little boy that Santa Clause forgot.
(You know, Christmas comes but once a year for every girl and boy,
The laughter and the joy they find in each brand new toy.
I'll tell you of a little boy that lives across the way...
This little fella's Christmas is just another day.
He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot,
And goodness knows, he didn't want a lot.)
In the street he envies all those lucky boys,
Then wanders home to last year's broken toys.
I'm so sorry for that laddie,

Waaa!
My ma in law sings a song about this time of year that brings a speck of sentiment to the eye. Think it was originally a Vera Lynn song from around the time Mr Soupy was born
MY SON, MY SON -
(My son, my son)
My son, my son you're everything to me
My son, my son you're all I hoped you'd be
My son, my son my only pride and joy
God bless and keep you safe
My own, my precious boy
For all the care and heartache
Life has brought to me
One precious gift has made it all worthwhile
For heaven blessed and with great joy rewarded me
For I can look and see my own beloved son
My son, my son just do the best you can
Then in my heart I'm sure
You'll face life like a man
My pride and joy
My life, my boy
My son, my son
At the moment Nelly Furtado- All good things come to an end brings me to tears. On the 12th Dec I had to drive out to my mum to break some bad news and that song came on the radio. I had to pull over and have a good bawl before continuing on to tell Mum her sister had died very suddenly. Still get teary when hearing it.

The Hollies ... He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother always gets my family in tears. It's a reference to my oldest brother who died in a tragic accident before I was born.
He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother
The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another
It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
He's my brother
He ain't heavy, he's my brother...
He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother
The road is long
With many a winding turn

Brother, can you spare a dime?
They used to tell me I was building a dream
And so I followed the mob.
When there was earth to plow or guns to bear,
I was always there, right on the job.
They used to tell me I was building a dream
With peace and glory ahead --
Why should I be standing in line, just waiting for bread?
Once I built a railroad, I made it run,
Made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad, now it's done --
Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower, up to the sun,
brick and rivet and lime.
Once I built a tower, now it's done --
Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once in khaki suits, gee, we looked swell
Full of that Yankee Doodle-de-dum.
Half a million boots went slogging through hell,
And I was the kid with the drum.
Say, don't you remember they called me Al,
It was Al all the time.
Why don't you remember, I'm your pal --
Say, buddy, can you spare a dime?
Once in khaki suits, ah, gee, we looked swell
Full of that Yankee Doodle-de-dum.

This song makes me cry ... cos I think we all want it to be true
John Lennon: Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over over
If you want it
War is over
Now...

Christmas 1986, the Housemartins a cappella version of 'Caravan of Love' and a girl of course.
Are you ready
Are you ready
Are you ready
Are you ready
Are you ready for the time of your life
It's time to stand up and fight
S'alright
S'alright
Hand in hand we'll take a caravan to the marvel land
One by one we're gonna stand up with pride
One that can't be denied
Stand up
Stand up
From the highest mountain valley low
We'll join together with hearts of gold
Now the children of the world can see
This is a better place for us to be
The place in which we were born
So neglected and torn apart
Every woman every man
Join the caravan of love
(Stand up) stand up
Stand up
Every body take a stand
Join the caravan of love
(Stand up) stand up
Stand up
I'm your brother
I'm your brother don't you know
She's my sister
She's my sister don't you know
We'll be living in a world of peace
And the day when everyone is free
Bring the young and the old
Won't you let your love flow from your heart
Every woman every man
Join the caravan of love
(Stand up) stand up
Stand up
Every body take a stand
Join the caravan of love
(Stand up) stand up
Stand up
I'm your brother
I'm your brother don't you know
She's my sister
She's my sister don't you know
So are you ready (he's coming)
Are you ready (he's coming)
Are you ready (he's coming)
Are you ready (he's coming on the caravan)
You better get ready (go for it)
You better get ready (go for it)
You better get ready (go for it)
You better get ready

Judee Sill - The kiss
The Kiss
Love, risin from the mists,
Promise me this and only this,
Holy breath touchin' me
Like a wind song,
Sweet communion of a kiss
Sun, siftin' thru the grey
Enter in, reach me with a ray
Silently swoopin' down
Just to show me
How to give my heart away
Once a crystal choir
Appeared while I was sleepin'
And called my name
And when they came down nearer
Sayin', "Dyin' is done",
Then a new song was sung
Until somewhere
We breathed as one
(and still I hear their whisper)
Stars, burstin' in the sky
Hear the sad nova's dyin' cry,
Shimmerin' memory
Come and hold me
While y'show me how to fly
Sun, siftin' thru the grey
Enter in, reach me with a ray
Silently swoopin' down
Just to show me
How to give my heart away
Lately sparklin' hosts
Come fill my dreams descendin'
On firey beams
I've seen 'em come clear down
Where our poor bodies lay,
Soothe us gently and say,
"Gonna wipe all your tears away".
(and still I hear their whisper)
Love risin from the mists
Promise me this and only this,
Holy breath touchin' me
Like a wind song,
Sweet communion of a kiss.....

I'm listening to this right now ... and it's just pure class ... I', just a sensitive wee sowel really ...
Simon and Garfunkel ... I Am a Rock
A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
Don't talk of love,
Well, I've heard the word before.
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me;
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
And a rock feels no pain;
And an island never cries.
Genius!!!

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though its breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

The one that gets me every time is I say a little prayer by Aretha from 1968...what a great song
The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little prayer for you
And while combing my hair now,
And wondering what dress to wear now,
I say a little prayer for you
Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever, we never will part
Oh, how I love you
Together, together, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me.
I run for the bus, dear,
While riding I think of us, dear,
I say a little prayer for you.
At work I just take time
And all through my coffee break-time,
I say a little prayer for you.
Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever we never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, together, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me.
I say a little prayer for you
I say a little prayer for you
My darling believe me, (believe me)
For me there is no one but you!
Please love me too
I'm in love with you (answer my prayer)
Answer my prayer babe (answer my prayer)
Say you love me too (answer my prayer)
Answer my prayer babe (answer my prayer)
Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, and ever we never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, together, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me (oooooooooh)
My darling believe me, (believe me)
For me there is no one but you!
Please love me too
This is my prayer (answer my prayer)
Answer my prayer now babe (answer my prayer)

You're right, and if we can't all get together at this time of year and have a mutual cry-in, then when can we? What a schmuck I am .Cleopas wrote:Nelson "I'm gonna spoil your greetin-face party" Hatstand wrote:Oh get a *** grip the lot of you.
Harsh man ... real harsh!
Therefore I am listening to For The Good Times by the great Kris Kristoffersson, and tears of salt are streaming down my porcelain-like skin.
"Don't look so sad, I know it's over.
But life goes on, and this old world will keep on turning.
Let's just be glad we had some time to spend together.
There's no need to watch the bridges that we're burning.
Lay your head upon my pillow.
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine.
Hear the whisper of the raindrops,
Blowin' soft against the window,
And make believe you love me one more time,
For the good times.
I'll get along; you'll find another,
And I'll be here if you should find you ever need me.
Don't say a word about tommorrow or forever,
There'll be time enough for sadness when you leave me.
Lay your head upon my pillow.
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine.
Hear the whisper of the raindrops,
Blowin' soft against the window,
And make believe you love me one more time,
For the good times."
Then I'm going to listen to Gladys Knight & The Pips' version of 'Help Me Make It Through The Night' and bury my head in Mrs Hatstand's bosom, sobbing silently and doing that occasional whole-body-shake type thing too, I imagine.
By the way, forgot to ask Cleo, was either of those Microdisney albums I copied for you the one that you used to own then?

Gloria Gaynor - I Am What I Am
I am what I am
I am my own special creation
So come take a look
Give me the hook
Or the ovation
It's my world
That I want to have a little pride
My world
And it's not a place I have to hide in
Life's not worth a dam
Till I can say
I am what I am
I am what I am
I don't want praise I don't want pity
I bang my own drum
Some think it's noise I think it's pretty
And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle
Why not see things from a different angle
Your life is a shame
Till you can shout out I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a dam till you can shout out
I am what I am
I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces

I am I am I am good
I am I am I am strong

I am I am I belong
I am
I am
Who whoooo etc.
I am
I am I am I am useful
I am I am I am true
I am I am somebody
I am as good as you
Yes I am

I am what I am
I am my own special creation
So come take a look
Give me the hook
Or the ovation
It's my world
That I want to have a little pride
My world
And it's not a place I have to hide in
Life's not worth a dam
Till I can say
I am what I am
I am what I am
I don't want praise I don't want pity
I bang my own drum
Some think it's noise I think it's pretty
And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle
Why not see things from a different angle
Your life is a shame
Till you can shout out I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a dam till you can shout out
I am what I am
I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a dam till you can shout out
I am what I am
I am I am I am good
I am I am I am strong
I am I am I am worthy
I am I am I belong
I am
I am
Who whoooo etc.
I am
I am I am I am useful
I am I am I am true
I am I am somebody
I am as good as you
Yes I am
I cry with this song ... cos I hate it so much!!!

Gosh. I'll be outside Scotmid in about 15 minutes if you really think that resorting to physical violence is the answer.Cleo wrote:Do I hafta come round and knock sense into you??
But don't forget that I look like this:

Shall I bring that effects unit, or am I ok to keep it for another week? (Am getting some real cool early analog squelchy sounds out of it, and wouldn't mind hanging on to it a bit longer.)

I don't actually live in Porty ... and I don't drive. It would take me a good bit more than 15 minutes to get to the Porty Scotmid. Maybe it's best you start without me? Anyway ...
Sunday Night's Alright (For Fighting) [with apologies to Elton and Bernie]
It's getting late have you seen my mates
Ma tell me when the boys get here
It's seven o'clock and I want to rock
Want to get a belly full of beer
My old man's drunker than a barrel full of monkeys
And my old lady she don't care
My sister looks cute in her braces and boots
A handful of grease in her hair
Don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Sunday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in
Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this dance alight
`Cause Sunday night's the night I like
Sunday night's alright alright alright
Well they're packed pretty tight in here tonight
I'm looking for a dolly who'll see me right
I may use a little muscle to get what I need
I may sink a little drink and shout out "She's with me!"
A couple of the sound that I really like
Are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike
I'm a juvenile product of the working class
Whose best friend floats in the bottom of a glass
Not that I would go fighting with you, Nelson. I was raised to respect my elders and not hit them ... unless they needed it.
I repeat ... You do NOT know me!
Give it up!!!
It's getting
now!!!

Easily resolved by asking the mods about Cleo's IP address and ISP.
Admins/Mods can see if more than one user is posting from the same machine (an IP address is tied to a network card).
That's how I collared "Moi" and also spotted that Tigger Rules and La Kitchener were posting from the same machine.
If Cleo is a real person then their IP will probably be :
a) unique
b) fairly consistent
c) not in common with another user
d) not solely an internet cafe or anonymizing proxy
It could be more than one person (ie a shared login amongst more than one user) - but the mods would be even more likely to have spotted this.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!
Mrs Catz fav sad song is Pearl Jams "Last Kiss"
Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven, so I've got to be good,
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.
We were out on a date in my daddy's car,
we hadn't driven very far.
There in the road, straight ahead,
a car was stalled, the engine was dead.
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right.
I'll never forget, the sound that night--
the screamin tires, the bustin glass,
the painful scream that I-- heard last.
Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven, so I've got to be good,
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.
When I woke up, the rain was pourin down.
There were people standin all around.
Somethin warm runnin through my eyes,
but somehow I found my baby that night.
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said,
Hold me darlin just a little while.
I held her close, I kissed her--our last kiss.
I found the love that i knew i would miss
well now she's gone, even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life - that night.
Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good,
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.
mmmm..........
uhohhhhhhhhhhhh............
Mine would be "Imagine" John Lennon
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
