This is a last resort:

An appeal to anyone who may have seen the following:

Lost. Yesterday afternoon. About 3.30. Between Marlborough Street and SCOTMID.

My daughter's toy lamb. Answering to the name of 'Baa'. Been her favourite toy since she was born.

Bought from a shop in France 2 years ago. Can't find replacement on internet. Very unhappy daughter.

Please help/keep your eyes peeled etc.

Looks like this, but a bit more squishy and grey:

It's survived many things far worse than a bit of frost, but I fear it's in a bin somewhere.

Will keep a lookout

Take it you've tried the police station though I believe after a while all lost property goes to Fettes.

Then there's St Anthony, patron saint of lost things. Sometimes he works for non believers like me in exchange for 10p in the charity box.

Thanks Soupy. I tried the police station but I'd forgotten all about St Anthony. I'll give him a go right now.

I've just got back from Scotmid.

I've been in there about 3 times this week to see if they had found Baa.

For some odd reason, after selecting my purchases, I went into a queue which had more people in it than the check-out next to it had. While I was paying for my Â£3.99 reduced from Â£7.99 bottle of cava, vegetarian sausages, philadelphia cheese, 2 pints of full fat milk and packet of nairns organic oatcakes, I noticed a small dirty looking lamb sitting on top of the till. And sitting right next to it was... you guessed it... Baa!!!!!!!!!!

I think I must have been guided there by Jesusanta himself!

What a lovely story for Christmas. I know how much Grommy and Brie (don't ask) mean to Emily and how devastated she would be to be parted from them, so I'm delighted and relieved that Baa has turned up safe and sound.

One wonders why Scotmid didn't tell you they found it though. Possible hostage??

Never mind. Baa's back and the bairn'll be happier now.

...excellent advice...I bought at least 6 stand-ins for my daughter's favourite dolly Katie...I used to take an extra when we went anywhere far afield just in case...we have only one very worn and dog eared little version left...my daughter's 15 and still sleeps with it
