Portobello Set Sights on a 4th Round Cup Place
In what promises to be a great match, a competitively unbeaten Portobello side face St Andrews University in the 3rd round of the National Cup on Saturday 9 December.
Portobello have had a record run with 7 consecutive league wins and two wins in the cup over Gala YM and Inverleith taking them into the third round. Topping their table and with a points difference of +325 points the seasiders have been untouchable in the league to date and will expect promotion come the end of the season.
However, St Andrews University will be Portobello's toughest test to date. With a good win over Edinburgh University last week and a 112 point win over Panmure at the weekend they currently lie second in Caledonia League Division 1 and are in the third round thanks to victories over Crieff & Strathearn and Arbroath.
Portobello Club Secretary, Barry Sinclair, speaking about the match said, It promises to be a good match - Porty unbeaten in league and cup rugby this season, so far, and St Andrews going well too. They play 2 matches a week and will be fit - they're also students, but we'll need to be the clever ones.
Ed Henderson, Club Captain, said, Playing at Cavalry Park is a real bonus for us and we will be targeting the win. Portobello have turned a corner this season and there is a real buzz around the club. Not only are we unbeaten but we are regularly getting three teams out on a Saturday. With the current set of players, the team confidence and our momentum this season we will give St Andrews a good run. We have proved that Cavalry Park is hard place to come and get a win this season and Saturday will be no different. Vital to the team on Saturday is our local support and I urge all to come and support the boys.
