The X-Factor
Wow - that was impressive. That moved me.
I had slumped on my favourite chair after a dinner of mince & onion pie, beans and coleslaw. I didn't think anything could move me out of my chair so quickly, but my legs pretty much bounded me out of the room on hearing Louis Walsh :
"...and now, Eton Road singing "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" from "The Lion King" "
In Return Of The Jedi, Darth Vader pitches up on the building site and the foreman guy's like "we're working as hard as we can innit" and Vader's like "I will find new ways to motivate them".
In terms of carrot and stick, both Vader and Walsh can find ways to get you off your lazy bum.

It surely has to be Leona that wins. i genuinely don't think Whitney could sing that welll live. Leona is a star I even frgave her for the Whitney lip action she did at the end.
It is baffling how The McD's have got so far. They are wedding singers their version of 500 miles was like listening to someone read the telephone book.

Me neither. In fact after all the crack she's been smoking I think walking and speaking are a bit tough for La Houston these days too.Porty wrote:It surely has to be Leona that wins. i genuinely don't think Whitney could sing that welll live.
Ain't that the truth. At least they might get some bookings now. Add in conventions, supermarket openings, nightclub PAs, Heat magazine etc and we must be talking 6 figures - you think?Porty wrote: It is baffling how The McD's have got so far. I don't know what sort of contractual hold ITV have on them in terms of their time after the show - these things like albums and tours featuring all the people on the show - I'd love to know who gets what cut.
The judges must win big every year!

Every time I see Ray, I want to rip out his vocal chords with my bare hands. Then I want to stamp on his stupid grinning face until he can grin no more.Sandra wrote:arrrggggghhhhh noooooooooooooooooooooCleopas wrote: Ray is cute ... watch him win!!!
Once I've done this, I will turn myself in to the music police, secure in the knowledge that no court in the land would convict me.
I think that the MacDonald Brothers are just about bland enough to win it.
CHEERS,
NELSON.

Am I Wee Ray's only supporter on this forum??
Leona warbles but has never hit a true note yet. I have perfect hearing and can spot a flat note half a mile away.
Ben, well ... he's your poor man's Meatloaf without the range or half the talent. What's wrong with his eyes by the way? Got something strange going on there.
The Macs ... Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha .... utter dung! How they're still in this comp, when they shoulda never got into the top 12 is a complere mystery. Louis' an eejit!
Cute wee Ray, with his big smile, great voice and absolute confidence in himself is a real performer. He LOVES what he's doing. You DO know he's getting the pink vote, don't you????

All eyes on the box for tonight, people.
Who will we say goodbye to?
Surely the MacKaraoke Brothers' luck has finally run out.
Or will it be Ben, the hoarse voiced tent-rigger with little talent?
Or Leona? Flat notes a speciality.
Of course, if it IS the very talented and hyper-cute Ray ...
... then it will show that the people who DO vote have no facility for discerning true talent and they all want a dose of polonium-210 in their prawn curries!!

I may have to eat my words. First songs are done!
Can't stand Barry Manilow ... always a turn off ... until Take That gave us "Magic".
The MacKaraokes were, as usual ... as expected ... Karrap!!!
Ray was very good with a song I detest, proving he CAN sing
... and Ben ... well, he was simply outstanding with his first song!
Leona, I thought was about to Donna Summer us with Could It Be Magic ... I was prepared to acknowledge she could really do it ... and then she Whitneyed a few words and the ending, leaving me completely scunnered!!!
Roll on Round Two!!!
Well, 2nd songs are done.
Shang-a-bloody-lang!! Those guys want to be taken up Ben Cruachain, and pushed over a steep part with extreme prejudice!
Ray sang My Way ... I thought "Dear God nooooo!" ... but he pulled it off ... and did very well.
For me, Leona spoiled the late great Harry Nilsson's "Without You" ... trembly lip and all.
But the bravest by far was Ben and the choir doing Somebody To Love accapella ... I didn't fall in love with it ... but it WAS very different.
My music teacher taught me that the best songs never stay the same. They evolve ... and Ben certainly did that with a song I though no-one but the great Freddy Mercury could do ...

This programme is getting like one of those charismatic/evangelical/hands-down-if-you-want-coffee churches where everyone tries to outfroth everyone else with their gibbering.
The judges are running out of guff to spout about the singers, the singers are running out of talentless grandiosity and the audience have started screeching even when the guys with the screech cards aren't holding them up.
I'm running out of words to describe how barrel-scrapingly face-screwingly nauseating that show was.
At least when you see luvvies congratulating themselves on their performances daahling they have had lines to remember or have done something, or there is artistic merit involved. You can allow them use of words used to describe very good things - but the incestuous bottom-feeders on the X-Factor have started to commit crimes against language itself as they massage each other into a frenzy.
Grr.

Agreed about the amount of hyperbole that goes on.
The Mentor/Judges are way too partisan and are just not honest enough.
The performers have not been around a bit, doing the circuits and the like, but that's where the argument comes in. Should they perhaps be a bit more matured in their performing abilities BEFORE they audition?
Personally, having worked in and around live theatre and been part of the auditioning process ... I favour dropping wannabes right in it and seeing what they're made of.
Remember, they're being coached by professionals AND they have to perform LIVE every week, with songs they've only just learned. I can assure everybody ... it is NOT easy getting up and singing on stage. It's highly stressful ... and then to have to listen to opinions that are sometimes very painful (in the case of the MacDonalds, well earned!) ... if you still think it's just pap and scraping the bottom of the barrel ... then YOU should get up and do better!
Where else is the new generation of talent going to come from? Some people are not as good as they (or their freinds) think they are.
You may not agree with me ... but experience is usually more informed than opinion.

No I shouldn't. Walk out the room and let BB watch it in peace maybe.Cleopas wrote: ... if you still think it's just pap and scraping the bottom of the barrel ... then YOU should get up and do better!

<sarcasm>At least we have the re-formation of Take That to be thankful for this evening</sarcasm>
The lads from Take That haven't aged well. All their eyes have sunk back in their skulls, they look wan, haggard, and there seems to be more of Barlow than before.
They don't seem to be capable of jumping about as much but 3 of them seem to still be doing some sort of absurd chicken dance while the 4th one sings.
edit-> added Cleo quote cos BC beat me to being right underneath Cleo/Manilow (ambiguity and puns intended)

X-Factor, Schmecks Factor.
Have to say I really liked the Accappella singing from Ben.
D - Gospelly church on Bonnington Road opposite Foxes Bar
C - I agree about 'don't knock it until you tried it'. Problem is I have tried it, can do it and and can happily knock half the acts which appear on these type of programs - some of them, despite stage prescense and being able to hype up the crowd (Ray, McDonald Bros) cannot sing (close you're eyes and really listen to them).
I'm happy those 2 are out - Ray next week and Leona and Ben for the final.
