Radio Free Porty - Rejected?
I sent in three one hour shows to Radio Free Porty some weeks ago - they've not yet appeared on the site. Do I assume that they have been rejected by the editorial board
Now that's Americana! AmericanaOK Reporting to both the Euro Americana Chart and Freeform American Roots Chart. Podcasts via iTunes.
Probably not.
I think they were so inundated with material that they're just having a few problems sorting it all out.
(Anyway, I've quite enjoyed listening to the Aphex Twin)
Patience..... I'm sure they'll sort it all out soon. As Jesse Winchester said: Third down 110 to go.

I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.
Gilo, IV and I have been sorting stuff out behind the scenes and you were part of the current update. Not sure I like this thread though, Tom.
Did you consider emailing one of us before you started it?
IV has designed a new website for us, Gilo has been busy making mp3s and playlists of the new update, and I have been sorting things so that he and IV can do the update themselves even though I'm still hosting the website and streaming the music.
During all this, we've encountered technical problems and had to learn to work out how to do things together. I've also been busy negociating with the MCPS/PRS to finally get our broadcasting number and have managed to persuade them to only charge us pro rata for the time in 2005 we transmitted illegaly - they wanted a full quarter's money for 10 days.
Gilo, IV and I don't get payed to do any of this and when I see threads like this, I wonder why I even bother in the first place. When I asked for help, the lads (Gilo & IV) were very kind to pitch in and help - yet all that it occured to Mop to say was "oh well whoever is doing the editing can they make sure they get my details right".
When we started a sub-forum to sort out updates, streaming, website issues etc, Rathbone saw fit to spam it.
And now this. We're doing this *for* you guys, yet it seems you are all only interested in yourselves.

You're quite right. Anyone can send anything and it gets played - we even used to play Rosie Blue. There has never been a music policy is our music policy.Porty wrote:Who is Tom and Mop?
I thought this thread was tongue in cheek, I may be wrong. Why on earth would RFP reject sets? And more to the point how could anyone think that they would?
Tom is AmericanaOK.
DJ Mop is Rapunzell.
Rathbone is Rathbone.
We started a "site administration" sub-forum - Rathbone guessed the password and joined in. Whatever. Face. Bothered.Porty wrote:Are you sure?Dadaist wrote:

.
Excuse me, but when did I say that? I have always made it perfectly clear that I can't help with computery things and equally clear that I am very grateful to all work that is done; usually by sending handmade chocolates to whoever is doing all the work, as you yourself know well. I don't appreciate being lit like this, and I don't need to remind you that I wasn't even slightly narky when it took nine months of reminders to get info up on the demo page, which wasn't for my benefit btw, but for the bands who had very kindly sent in free music, and for the reputation of the radio station so that they didn't think we were ungrateful.Dadaist wrote:Gilo, IV and I have been sorting stuff out behind the scenes and you were part of the current update. When I called for helpers, you spammed the thread with this :
I'm sure you don't appreciate "being lit like this" but hey, that must make two of us - I don't appreciate having threads spammed and besides, it makes you look ungrateful.Ok, whoever is helping; can you please add this to the RFP homepage
Well, I didn't know that was 'spamming', and after so many months I think it was very polite and a timely opportunity to show the sort of thing that help was needed for. Excuse me for getting it wrong, but it was apparently a mistake. It does not at all reflect the impression you were giving about me in this bloody awful thread, and if you had to pick the two most ungrateful people on RFP I am really disappointed you'd even think one of them was me, even if I did apparently 'spam' as the gratitude and courtesy the rest of the time would surely count for a lot more. I can understand that you have so much stress you are in a foul mood but don't take it out on me. I've never taken it out on you.Dadaist wrote:When I called for helpers, you spammed the thread with this :

I hope Americana OK's sets haven't been rejected by Radio Free Porty. I was hoping to be the first person/DJ to be barred, once I drop off my next set, which is a home-made 'mash up' (as I believe they're known) of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music and John Coltrane's Ascension...
What nobody has mentioned is that there are some lovely tunes on Radio Free Porty at the moment, courtesy of Gilo, Rathbone, Mop etc.
Let us hope that the healing power of the music can bring us all together, in loving and harmonious unity.
Come on chaps.
Peace,
JP.

Yes, that is a point. I sent in the set *as* support for the radio station and the new organisers, even though it was difficult (and stressful) to construct at that time under the circumstances I (and the computer) was in, but I didn't mind, because I thought it was important to show continued support, as was leaving them alone to set it up it in their own time as they had so much work to do. Stupid me for thinking that was obvious.
Thanks for your continued support. Gilo and IV have been doing a great job and are almost there.rapunzell wrote:Yes, that is a point. JP - you would never be the first DJ to be barred. As I am now just another DJ on the station, I'm going to go full pelt with my next set to make sure it's me. ME. ME FIRST!

What a fuss I’ve caused. Thank goodness Porty recognises a tongue in cheek! So apologies for any offence caused but it is good to know what is happeningPorty wrote:Who is Tom and Mop?

Like Rapunzel, I apologise if I caused you any upset. I certainly didn't intend to, or realise that I'd "spammed" you.Dadaist wrote: When we started a sub-forum to sort out updates, streaming, website issues etc, Rathbone saw fit to spam it.

Just to set the record straight, the thread you are referring to has no disclaimer on it saying "Dada, Gilo and IV only, keep out" and I didn't 'guess' the password. I simply used the one that you had given me. (beginning with m, remember?).
What I posted was: "I'm Impressed. Award yourself a hot chocolate."
That was meant to be a compliment for all of the hard work the three of you have been doing over the last couple of weeks.
I meant it. I am impressed, and I think you should now take the hot chocolate and calm down..... all this stress isn't good for you.
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.
Dear oh dear oh bleedin' dear.
Lets get a few things straight.
AmericanaOK, it was fine to start this thread. It was obviously tongue in cheek and if I'd got here first I'd have simply answered your question.
Rathbone, the idea that you interrupted the RFP admin site with spam is .... well I'm speechless. I went back over it expecting to to find you trying to flog us viagra with multiple posts. I could only find a few kind words about having a hot chocolate.
Rapunzall, deepest sympathy to you for having your day interrupted by an unprovocked verbal assault.
RFP is under new management, that being myself and IV, who are both schooled in the art of social interaction. No one need look beyond us for any queries regarding RFP and I very much appreciate the time and effort of people making up sets for us. Rest assured that if you continue to be involved you are not running the risk of receiving random verbal volleys.
Myself and IV were intending to run RFP completely. IV had technical difficulties, Dada kindly offered to continue using his computer to broadcast from, and therefore remains involved. However, I'm not going to hang around in a project which acts in this manner, so for me to remain involved this wont be repeated.
Rest assured that there will an immediate staff training programme introduced.
On a serious note, I really hope people won't be put off continuing to contribute. And check out the new sets, they're looking good and will hopefully be on stream soon.

Ooh! Veiled threats. I like veiled threats. Gilo, before I can uninvolve myself completely we need to also divest me of the following bits you missed :gilo wrote:Dada kindly offered to continue using his computer to broadcast from, and therefore remains involved. However, I'm not going to hang around in a project which acts in this manner, so for me to remain involved this wont be repeated.
1. my web server - you'll need to buy a commercial one and host IVs site there
2. it's my home address the MCPS/PRS hassle for cash. we'd need to tell them a new name and address to hassle for cash.
3. www.radiofreeporty.org is registered to me and someone would have to buy it off me, or I could just de-register it.
4. i rent the shoutcast server. do you want me to shut it down so youse can rent one instead?
5. the machine which runs winamp needs to be on 24/7, as you correctly point out.
Are you saying that someone is taking over the fundraising and technical bobbins as well?
The project doesn't act in this manner. I act in this manner. RFP belongs to the community and anyone can run it. I'm allowed to have opinions on what does and doesn't constitute a valid thread which could have been an email, and what constitutes spamming someone's thread where they were trying to sort stuff out.
There was nothing veiled about it and it wasn't intended to threaten, I was simply saying where I'm at.Dadaist wrote:Ooh! Veiled threats. I like veiled threats. Maybe I should have said I'm not going to hang around in a project whose participants act and this manner.
Now this manner is being repeated. Therefore I'm no longer going to participate.
Unfortunately those sending in music will need to seek out a new contact name and address. I apologise to anyone who feels let down by my actions.

Time for IV (with the help of Mrs IV) to step in and try some mediation!
Gents, gents, no need to fall out over this, we can all work together in peaceful harmony for the greater good, surely?
I am sure no one meant any harm by any of their comments, all in good humour - no?
Failing that, I think a midnight wrestle on Porty beach should iron out those difference, particularly given the sub zero temperatures and gale force winds!
Now I trust there will be no more of this nonsensical chat...., think of the community if nothing else!
