I've finally done it!

At long last I've finally done it. I've always wanted to do it and now I have. I've been SCUBA DIVING

$\:D/$ I went to Deep Sea world and after giving myself and two others (I was the only newbie) some basic tuition they let us off the leash to play amongst the sharks. Here's one of the pictures that my wife took of me http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/dea ... /scuba.jpg It really was an exhilarating experience and although it was quite hard going, it was definitely worth it.

My biggest fear before going on the adventure was that I would have a cold. A week ago my boss came to see me and told me that he had one. Needless to say I came down with it as well

However, I overcame it only to come down with one yesterday

Luckily it did not last and I was much better today.

I really enjoyed the experience and I met one of my kid's friend who is in overall charge of of safety, just before I went on the excursion. I'm still on a high. I cannot believe just how much I enjoyed the experience

Is that the only way to sub aqua round here.?
I know there used to be a club based in Portobello years ago and one of the Clangers had a taster class( Go 4 It ) at Leith Academy but even I would hold back at throwing him to the sharks, unless he doesn't tidy his bit of his room soon.

I know they say that those sharks are safe but they look pretty scary to me ...and that's on seeing them at a fraction of their true size! Rather you than me Scorpion!

I also got to do this for the first time a few weeks back on my honeymoon in St Lucia. Had a few hours lesson in a small pool then out to the sea - it was absolutely superb luckily we didn't see any sharks though :p
Went out again and my regulator came out my mouth but managed to stay calm and get a hold of it, put it back in and clear it out before continuing on like nothing had happened. My wife also tried it but couldn't get her head round it while in the training pool so never completed the course, so she went snorkelling instead.

Those regulators are great kit. The valves are designed to be stuck open if they malfunction, meaning you can at least breathe.

I know someone who has vomited through one - it kept working, and all the fishes started eating the spew. Not kidding.

You can sip air from the cone of a regulator stuck on full - it's a weird experience, the complete reverse of drinking from a tap but the same motion.

The most times I've come closest to death have been whilst diving - you may have noticed the strictness of the drills - for very good reason. Follow them and you'll probably stay alive - don't and you're an idiot.

If something goes wrong, it's a real test of concentration under - literal and figurative - pressure.

Yup there was, it was the British Sub Auqa Club and which was located at the bottom of Bath Street and we used to meet every Wednesday, I think it was. We trained in Portobello baths. There were regular weekend dives to Dunbar, St Abbs etc. Around 1973, ahh those were the days. Young, free and risking life and limb plunging into a freezing cold north sea with what can only be described as a bomb strapped to your back.

No wonder my mother freaked every time I went diving.

The people Go4It used for the scuba diving that Clanger4 went to in the summer are http://www.deepbluescuba.co.uk/index.html.

(The Go4It is a scheme run during the school holidays and excellent value for money they offer scuba, fencing, rock climbing, white water rafting etc etc your school kids should come home with the booklets, but get applications in quick at the time )

Ah I rember the Sub Aqua well as my Nan used to live above the club and we used to have to go through the gate at the side of the club to get into the back garden, so I may have passed you on the way there.Think that's all one house now

Well it's a small world. Yes it's all one house now. The door used to be at the front and it was strangly small as I remember.
