Shirt Weather

When I first moved to Edinburgh I lived in Dalry. When it came to winter there was this man who walked around wth only a tee-shirt on his top half. I thought he must be extremely cold or very hard indeed. The hard man of Dalry, if you like.

The longer I've lived here, the more appropriate my clothes have become. Now that it is mid - November and there have been one or two chilly mornings, I check my layers, put on a hat, maybe a scarf and then an overcoat. Walking down the prom always brings its own chill factor at this time of year as well.

Well this morning imagine my surprise, concern and shock when I see Pal of Porty waving at me, all smiles, sporting khaki trousers and a shirt. Then I thought about it and his always strolling down the prom 8.30a.m. in a shirt.

Surely that can't be right?

Fat is a wonderful thing and I speak from experience. it has to be very cold before I consider a coat. And you probably didn't know but PoP lived in newcastle for 18 years, where coats are as rare as 21 year old virgins.

That's it, isn't it. Thank you. There all nuts in that city. It's a Saturday afternoon in January and they're all wearing a footy top only. As afternoon turns in to evening, they swap it for a shirt. Is everyone in Newcastle well built or is it more a state of mind?

I'm not at the other extreme though. I hate it when homes are overly hot with central heating.

I keep my drysuit diving thermals at work to wear under my jeans for when it's baltic standing at the bus stop. I'll have a t-shirt, jumper, hoody and fleece on top. I can't stand having cold ears, toes or thighs.

I add and remove top layers all the time depending on the weather - but blimey, didn't we get a good innings this year for t-shirt weather? Strewth!

I hate the heat at night in the tropics when you can't sleep. You've normally had a meal too and it's that sort of sultry, dirty evening heat. Can't stand that either.

Individual climate control is what I want, and a pill that stops you sweating like a pig when you walk into small shops in summer.

I prefer the Winter since I was a Winter baby. The hot months (when we get them) are too much for my already hot blood coursing through my veins and getting me all sweaty and up for it all the time!

I like wearing loose clothes all the time ... and I love going abroad in my kilt at every opportunity.

Yes I think Porty has hit the nail on the head. My endomorphic body shape (short & fat) has evolved to make me much more suited for life as an Eskimo rather than the Ectomorphs (tall & Skinny) that inhabit the African Plains.

Was I hot in Barcelona this this year!

Wasn't it a horrible wet night last night, brr I was well wrapped up in raincoat but feet were wet

hair wet, umbrella blown inside out. Was I glad to get home to warm house and hot bath.

I like when Porty and POP wear pink shirts on the same day

On the first Parly visit they both were sporting their pink shirts

Does anyone fancy a Parly lunch again?? Or is this a bad idea?

Sandra, that is a brilliant idea. It is the best value for money in Edinburgh, a beautiful room and first class service. We don't need to go as mental as last time.

It would be great to have some new, as well as old faces there. Why not start a thread and suggest it? It actually would have been a brilliant choice forthe xmas night out but probably not if your intention is to keep your job.

I think it was a year ago tomorrow we went to the Parlty for the first time, cos Bearcub had won that Pudsey Bear cake that PoP bought off him as a sop to mrs PoP. She bopped him with it.

BTT: Like Gilo I detest houses where the central heating is too hot, I imagine its like getting strangled.

Unlike Dadaist I dont mind cold toes, thighs or ears especially if they are part of a warm hearted package.

I play outdoor tennis all winter round and have done for the last 10 years. Think ive had a pair of tracksuit bottoms on twice at the most.

I got suckered into buying an expensive 3/4 length coat 3 years ago and I've worn it twice. I had to berate son of porty last weekend as flearoy kindly sent me a pic to my mobile of him wearing it. "but you never wear it dad"- whilst that is almost true, its hardly the point. You'd think he would have learned his lesson from the time I left him shoeless at work, as he had gone there wearing my best shoes.

Kids eh?

that was so funny that PoP thought a pudsey cake would save him, I did think it might though through my drunken haze, though that lunch was not quite as drunken as the last lunch

Not long picked Baby dragon up from the Cowgate. While waiting in Candlemaker Row I couldn't help but notice the number of people, mostly male, in t shirts wandering along Cowgate/ Grassmarket. Must be the alcohol that's keeping them warm. They've had the griitters out tonight on the main roads!

Baby Dragon or( Clanger no3) is 15 and was at an under 18s thingy at Subway, didn't like the thought of her trying to get a bus back from round there even if with pals so did a "mums taxi " run. They didn't think much of it, missing Studio 24 so much.

Yes the t- shirted ones were all young. Think they were trying to show off muscles!
