Danger - seagulls

Post by Guest » 10 Jun 2004, 18:32

We've had a lot of bother recently with seagulls landing on our windowsills (third floor flat) and pecking at the glass. They also peck the putty, though this seems accidental. It's not a huge hassle but it's very annoying - cleaning sash and case windows from the inside is never fun.

Anyone else had similar problems?

Hi Alex,

Those gulls pecking your putty are maybe not so much of an accident because some types of putty contain linseed oil or fish oil.

I remember when the cupola in the tenement in Meadowbank where I grew up was reglazed as part of a refurb and loads of starlings all congregated for a pecking session!

A very Hitchcock experience.

It's well known that they are very devious and evil animals  We currently have two who sit on the roof next door at 5.45am every morning and shriek as loud as they possibly can just until we are WIDE awake - then they fly off. I think they're actually reincarnations of someone we've offended!

The seagulls have stopped now the breeding season is over! But entering the twilight zone... I logged onto my own website the other day and saw an advert for http://www.gullstop.co.uk/.

Spooky or what?

[quote="Alex"]now the breeding season is over! quote]
They might have stopped breeding but they haven't stopped eating! The other night it was like a scene from the birds with about half a dozen of the huge beasts seemingly dive bombing my living room windows - however, on closer inspection it was actually a poke of chips on the pavement they were after!

They should be reported to the police for flying without due care and attention. I mean, what right do seagulls have to be flying around us human's houses as if they own the place. Is not like we live near the sea or anything. Honestly its a disgrace.

I hate seagulls!!!! BUT.... I love the baby starlings and the swifts that live in my eaves and the daft blackbirds and even the doves that live in my neighbours ivy, not to mention the blue tits (no smart comments please) and that very rare commodity in Porty - the SPARROWS! I JUST HATE SEAGULLS  (they're evil)

LOL that seagull is gonna have one hell of a hang over!

Seagulls are really annoying me!!! I'm a vegetarian, but they're testing me :) They crap all over my over my car. Can't decide what to do. Car cover is too much hassle.

Found something about seagull spikes. Might solve original posters question?? They're blunt and non lethal (a pitty), but stop seagulls "sitting comfortably" on top of a roof or ledge.

Now all I need is a ladder and some nails.

There are usually toys and/or children all over my settee - this has the same effect as those pigeon spikes. I end up perched away up in a smelly corner.

I eat my food on the floor. I don't want my baby coming near the sofa with marmite all over her dear little hands. I don't have a table, so I don't have to make an excuse not to sit at it. :)

I had a seagull land in my parsley yesterday.
My parsley grown at the kitchen windowsill 1 flight up.
It stared at me for a wee while until i threw a book at it.

See it came back later and got its revenge! Splat

Maybe it's all that washing and polishing the gull that works like an enema. Maybe you should leave her alone  . I still hate seagulls.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
