Please be aware of the latest scam going around the south of the country

Thanks Thumper - looks like COEC will do anything to raise funds these days. What if you're expecting a parcel from Belize?

Seriously though, although for once this isn't a hoax, ICSTIS investigated this last year :

So it looks like it was a genuine scam but that it operated last Christmas.

I am quite happy to co-ordinate this. If you see anything suspicious please call me on 0906 92934956 and wait for the recorded message. 8)

This was from last year ago when it happened in England and Wales, it's not a hoax although the warning isn't correct. The call costs £1.50 per minute, not £15 straight off as no number can do this.

There are a few links there including
http://www.icstis.org.uk/consumers/ncd/default.asp
which is a number checker for any numbers you are unsure about.

Basically 090 numbers are the expensive ones, so take care before you dial and if in doubt do a quick Google search on the number (first link I found for the above number is the Urban Myths site that I posted above) or use the number checker link.

Well, we might be a bit behind the times in some ways with this, but at least POL is ahead of the Evening Snooze!
