They all let you down in the end!!!
They all let you down in the end!!!
I've been thinking lately about rock stars and how as you get older you start to see through the hype.
Recently I've noticed a few things that sort of take the shine off them. You just can't trust anything they say.
Mick Jagger for instance was actually born in dartford and not, as he claimed, "in a cross-fire hurricane".
Talking Heads. They had torsos. (Although it was hard to fault their accuracy when they claimed "the name of this band is talking heads").
I think you'll find that Lee Marvin was born in New York, not "under a wandering star".
What can we do about these people?
Anybody got any more examples??

Chuck D from Public Enemy rapped :
'I got a letter from the government
The other day
I opened and read it
It said they were suckers'
Now, if indeed there was ever a letter in the first place, I doubt when he opened it, it read :
Dear Mr D,
We are the Government. We are suckers.
Yours,
The Government.

I'm glad that you've just mentioned this thread, Ali, because something has been troubling me of late.
In Kaleidoscope's A Dream For Julie, it says that "Strawberry monkeys are all smiling for Julie, with pearl button eyes that reflect velvet clouds".
Well, I'm sure I've never seen any strawberry monkeys, and if I had, I'm sure they wouldn't've been smiling.

I can't but feel that The Beatles were very advanced. When they were younger, so much younger than today, they never needed help in any way.
So that must mean that they could change their own nappies, sterilise bottles, teach themsleves to read music and everything. How impressive is that? No wonder they were a phenomenon. I did notice it took them quite a while to learn how to cut their hair but they has to be avarge at some things.

Well, good for Brucie but if that's the only positive one to emerge after several weeks then I think we're entitled to be cynical.Pal of Porty wrote:You are all a bunch of cynics - Bruce Springsteen was born in the USA.
I can remember when joe strummer's old man was at pains to point out that, contrary to his son's claims, he was never convicted of armed robbery and was, in fact, a senior diplomat in the foreign office.

Usually raving in clubs?Where are all the shiny happy people?
But you know, Shirley Bassey is what she is, and I have to agree with Aretha and Annie that sisters are in fact doing it for themselves. Some, anyway.

Well there is no doubt about that, I agree but this is not as straightforward as you may think. Bruce informed us in 1984 that "I was Born in the USA" and he repeated it over and over again. However, just two years earlier on "Nebraska" he informed us that "my name is Joe Roberts and i work for the state" he went on to telll us that he had a brother named Frankie and that they used to take turns dancing with Maria, as the band played "Night of the Johns' Town Flood".Pal of Porty wrote:You are all a bunch of cynics - Bruce Springsteen was born in the USA.
So its not clear which "I" Bruce was singing about and is he Bruce Springsteen or Joe Roberts?
