What a job to get back on

Post by sunnyporty » 04 Oct 2006, 15:46

  I've been off line for a while and thought all I had to do was click on Portobello online and in I would be.......all I kept getting was an Italian site very confusing but eventually after reading the article on Maureen Childs ther happened to be a little clicky bit that I clicked on and here I am at last.
Now all I have to do is think of something interesting to say ehhhhhhh !!! how about starting a book of the month club??
On second thoughts maybe not......How about the subject of moving house and how many times??? Now theres a subject one or two of us could discuss :P

Know what you mean. Knew there was a Porty online but my searches gave me lots of info re Dublin, mushrooms and where-ever. But got here in the end.
Moving house? Not something I've done in over 20 years. Thought about it many times to give the Clangers more space but was outbid, outpriced and out of the area. To much stress and unhappy Clangers. My mother on the other hand has moved 10 times in the time I've stayed put. Last one was "just around the corner" from her current locale so "ach, we wont need a removal firm" . Fine until you get to the big items. Her new neighbours were very impressed to see us wheeling the washing machine by on a skateboard. Next time she gets itchy feet I'm off to Greece, France or Narnia!

Our last one was just across the road, from No. 38 to No. 35. The neighbours had a great time watching us carry everything from one house to the other. We got some very complementary comments on some of the items and a few derisory hoots about some of the others.
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.

A familiar story Rathbone. Before we moved to Portobello we lived in the same street in Leith for 11 years, moving to a larger flat 2 doors down from our first after 3 years. We decided to move all our stuff bit by bit ourselves, whicht kept many of our neighbours entertained for days

moving house

Post by sunnyporty » 14 Oct 2006, 22:38

Well, when i got married in 1973, I lived with the mother in law for 18 months until I screamed that WE WILL HAVE TO GET A PLACE OF OUR OWN...not that the mother in law was the typical mother in law...she was lovely and that was the problem , the son I had married got too comfortable and didn't want to move.
We moved to Penrith for a couple of years then , back to mother in laws for a couple of monthe till house number 2 was ready. We moved to Wigton for 8 years, sold that and rented a flat for 3 years, moved to a tiny village to a cottage mmmmmmmm lovely and rural.
Sold that after 3 years as we were going to move down near birmingham of all places, but that didn't come off so we rented back in wigton for a couple of years and then got the cottage where i am now ,still in Cumbria and all in all thats 8 moves.Cant beat my auntie though....at least 26 and little sister is catching me up   Ahhhh but I dont think I'm finished yet, mainly because I have a spiral staircase and I have'nt seen a stair lift yet that can fit up one of them, and as Im reaching the age of creeky bone syndrome  :( I'll have to be thinking ...........No I wont I'll live down stairs .There sorted
