I received the following email last week, from someone who used to live in Leith, and come down to Portobello to go to Findlays and the golf:

"never has
lips ears and eye tissue been used so well to create such delicacies.
my favourit was a square sausage with a black pudding in the center and with in that was slotted a scotch egg.
i dont know if this really exists or i had a hallucinary pork experience.
i hope its real?"

I never go in the butchers (as a youth I used to weep in butchers' shops), so can anyone confirm for me if this, er, 'delicacy' really exists? And if so, does it have a name?

Strangely, when I was at Dobbies at the weekend they *did* have sliced sausage with black pudding in the middle, and also sliced sausage with haggis in the middle.

Not quite what you described, but the butchers there were so knowledgable (they came from Cupar) that I think they may know the name of this turducken Scots meat Russian Doll.

Sounds yummy.

I went to Romania once and was in Brasov in the Carpathian mountains. The local speciality was a chicken breast, on a slab of steak, on a veal escalope, on a pork fillet, on top of a big bowl a greasy, garlicky fried potatos.
