Photos of access points along the prom

Post by rapunzell » 23 Aug 2006, 12:52

I've already started scrounging in Porty Matters as part of the disabled access thread, but there are probably some photographers loitering in Porty Online whom I might otherwise miss, if it's ok with the mods to add this here.

I'm looking for any good photographs of the entrances to the beach down along the southern half of the prom. They don't have to be surveyor quality so you don't need to include a stripey stick or spirit level (unless you really want to) but anything that gives a clear idea of the slopes involved, or indeed, the steps, and the sand, will be very useful.

Thanks!

Thank you!

Those are lovely images; I completely distracted myself by meandering through the galleries of the Porty photos.

The shots of the steps and beach wall, and some long distance shots of the wall right down to the low tide are exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for in order to build up a good description of the possibilities along the prom. If you can take any more while you are out and about that would be fantastic.

Looking up at an entrance from the sand, and from the prom down to the sand, and from each side of the slope down at its own level, would give the best idea of what the slope is like and how it hits the sand, and then there's longer distance to show how far it is across the sand to the water - but please don't feel constrained by these descriptions!

I'm starting up at this northern end - we may yet meet in the middle :D

Wangi, you’re a fantastic photographer! I've meandered through your snapshots with delight.

Is that a school field within this photo?

Thanks :)

I went out and took some shots when I got home tonight - can of beer in one hand, camera in another! Managed to get all the entrances from the east end of the Prom (or south if you will!) along to the community garden:

At the circular steps: 1
Outside 37 Esplanade Terrace: 1, 2
Outside 16 Esplanade Terrace: 1, 2
Outside 9 Esplanade Terrace: 1, 2
Bottom of Morton Street: 1, 2
Outside 76 Promenade: 1, 2
Outside Hamilton Lodge: 1, 2
Opposite community garden: 1, 2

These are just the low-res shots straight out of the camera. Let me know if want them at higher resolution?

One thing to note is that level of the sand really does vary a lot - a couple of feet easy depending on the time of the year!

Hmm, not too sure... I think it's probably uni playing fields? It'll be between West Mains & Liberton.

Yeah, read those - sounds like hard work :) !

Wow, you're an absolute star! I definately owe you more than one can of beer for that expedition :D These are surveyor-quality photos, and I've got a much clearer picture in my head now of the appropriateness (or not) of possible alterations, which is really going to help with the proposal for the council. Looking at these photos makes the project seem even more real tonight - thank you for doing this Lee!
