Free web space

Post by impossiblevoices » 12 Aug 2006, 11:56

Can anyone recommend a free webspace provider? I have the following criteria...

- Any file types allowed (.mp3, .wav etc)
- A large ammount of server space (100Mb+)
- Fair ammount of monthly bandwidth
- Large uploads allowed (or split archives)

I know I should probably pay for this service, but I already pay for my dot com hosting with clara.net and don't really want to pay for any more!

What does everyone else use/think?

- Oh yeah, FTP access is required too!

Dunno anywhere free with that wishlist.

I use www.dreamhost.com - for $7.95/mo (and yes, that is buck not £) :

20GB storage
1 TB bandwidth

and more plugins and thingies than you can wave a stick at.

Presumably then they support all the major photo hosting software Matthew?

My previous webhost, hiyacorp.com , managed to lose my entire photo collection of over 5,000 pictures and did not have a backup. While I have most of these pictures on my own PC, the time spent putting them online was huge...and I did manage to lose pics from the East Coast USA and Czech Republic and Poland which I live in hope will turn up on some stray CD lying around the house one day!

I've not got another provider yet but this one looks tempting...

In webhosting, if it sounds too good to be true it is - as I found with hiyacorp. :?
