Edinburgh Marathon 2006

Post by Maria » 22 May 2006, 17:08

Anyone (apart from Homer -oh joy!) taking part in this year's marathon?

What about Porty and last year's team mates from the relay event?

Reminder that the Marathon is on this Sunday so that means parking restrictions, road closures and traffic delays.

I'll be out with the jelly babies to cheer my other half on this year again. At least it sounds as if the weather will be pleasant for spectators, though maybe not that ideal for the runners. If you spot my other half (he's number 81 and called Bernie) give him a bit of encouragement in order to keep him running past the Dalriada's beer garden :D

No one else running?

Thanks for the reminder Marya. Had forgotten all about it. I guess it is going to cause us great problems trying to get the bus to the airport........ typical!! Had a look at the route map, and not sure if buses will be able to get along Portobello High street or not? Will need to give Lothian buses a call tomorrow methinks.

Portobello High street has a lane closed for the runners Gizmo and one lane open for two way traffic which gets through in staggered stages, with long queues building up, so leave yourself lots of time.

Thanks! At least there are buses going through Porty. Was beginning to envisage having to haul suitcases up to Portobello Road. Any idea when the runners are likely to hit Portobello? Need to be at airport for check in at 2pm....

On a very strict budget, so we are jetting off to Spain with Flyglobespan...... we have low expectations, so hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised. Could have saved our money and stayed here if the weather stays as hot as it is at the moment!

Never mind water, I hope they give out handcream to the spectators.

(Grumble - it does get to you after a bit the constant clapping at both the front and back of the house - we're locked in by the marathon!)

Homer ran in under 3 hours, a phenomenal time in very difficult conditions and a foot full of blisters. He's currently anaesthetising himself with red wine.

Really well done Homer. Brilliant time.

I was thinking of you down here. The temperature for our run was 29 degrees and I did my personal worst. Came in 1,222 out of a field of 2,500. (4 hours 16 mins.)
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.

Just to put Homer's time into perspective, he finished 62nd out of 4090 finishers. It means that 98.5% of the field finished behind him, including a lot of much younger athletes.

It truly is a remarkable feat. Speaking of which, how are the feet Homer?

63 to be precise, but who cares ? Support was fantastic. Feet are just recovering. I'm sad to see you had to make reference to my age. What's youth got to do with anything? :D
If you can keep your head when all around are losing theirs, it probably means you've underestimated the gravity of the situation.
