Do You Know......

Post by Epykat » 22 May 2006, 10:48

if anybody has died in your house?

I know for a fact that two people have died in ours (obviously previous to our moving in!). One in the living room and one in the hall. I know this because we're only the third family to have lived here since 1880 and I know descendants of both previous families. It really doesn't bother me but how do other people feel?

About the people who died in your house? Look at my face.

I'm not sure if it would make a difference to me if they died in the house, but it would make a difference to me living somewhere that only came on the market cos the owner died, as opposed to the kind of transaction you and I shook hands on.

Dada Towers at the moment, I think the guy was in a home or hospice before he died but it feels different - almost as if you have to have some respect for the previous owner. Not that I didn't pay regular homage to your papering skills, Epy.

Surely some people must have died in our house? Its been there for nearly 200 years.

I guess if its a natural death then it causes no problems but what about if someone had been murdered in your house? I know the chinese are very superstitious and would not like that at all. Indeed there is an infamous example of this not to far away from where I live.

And my mum now lives in a house she purchased from a dead person's estate AND the deceased was a relation of Dadaist. I don't know if she died in the house but I'm getting a bit spooked by the amount of deaths that our good friend has been assocaited with recently. Particularly as I am reliably informed that he visited the house not long before the demise.

Many family pets are buried in back gardens all over the City I imagine.

I know that 7 people died in the house I live in, in the early 50s due to T.B.

Death is nothing to be afraid of. And ghosts cannot harm you.

Battenberg is usually safe, Dadaist ... but it's best to avoid the cream cakes.

I'm not particularly superstitious myself, but I have some friends who put an offer in on a house a few years ago. They were new to the city in question and the house was supposedly lovely and seemed like a good deal. On their second or third visit to the house, they went down to the cellar for the first time. Both the guy and their young son (I think about 4 or 5 at the time) got completely spooked down there, so much so that they withdrew their offer on the house. They found out afterwards that the last owner had committed suicide in the cellar.

Wooohhh Spooky. I always wonder about stuff like that. I've never had a an experience remotely like it.

Well maybe the exception is when we went through a Ouija playing spell(ouch) at uni. That was intense.

I can perform an exorcism if need be.
Just call me, and I'll arrive with ma geetar and amp.

We went to look at a house once which was empty and quite liked it until we went into the back bedroom and there was a horrible dirty mattress on the floor and the estate agent told us the old man used to sleep like that in there. Put me right off :?

It wasn't in Park Avenue by any chance was it ? We looked at one there and there was one room with "stuff" splattered on the walls and a grubby bed (can't remember if it was just a mattress).........couldn't get out of the place quick enough.

We've always suspected our house is haunted. Ever since we moved here there have been odd things like hearing the front door opening (even the dog used to get up and wag her tail at the door) and nobody coming in, hifi going off and on etc but this last week (prior to us moving out) it seems to have escalated. I like to think they just don't want us to go  . Can't wait to get to the new house and see if we have any 'friends' in there

Yes. He shot himself with a .38 Colt revolver at 10:30 am on 22 May 1896.

My brothers used to tell me our old house was haunted by the ghost of Jenkins Snape, who died in the cellar. It was years before my mother took pity on me and told me the house had no cellar, and Jenkins Snape was the name of the estate agents who were selling the house when we bought it. But then they also told me that if you swallowed chewing gum, they punished you by hanging. I think brothers are terrible things. Much rather meet a ghost than my brothers  .

Hiya gogs_t, I think Epycat was probably legally obliged to mention ghosts in the schedule, or at least declare them somewhere. So if yo hear any strange goings on you may have a legal case. Though this subject to time limits like cookers, central heating etc.

lol

Apparently the time limit for the paranormal is a bit longer as Ghostbusters don't feature in the Edinburgh Yellow Pages so it's a more specialised area.
