Hunting Season

Post by Dadaist » 07 May 2006, 02:45

I'm awake at this hour because my cat's plastic water bowl started moving across the kitchen floor. Sitting next to it was a soggy cat. Under said bowl was a little mouse. I managed to catch the little ***** (mouse, not cat) and threw it out the back - only for it to be re-caught by the now out-of-favour cat.

By this point the air had started to turn blue and the girls upstairs were starting to stir.

I removed the mouse from the jaws of daddy's little tiger - who went back out the back, thinking this was a new game of cat and mouse - and deposited little Jerry out the front.

Welcome, the first live catch of the 2006 season.

My cat was bringing in crisp packets for a while whitch is ok you just pick them up and put in bin no harm done.

Then the shock came.I was out one day came home and found the cat makeing lots off noise in the sitting room.I was in more need off a nice coffee so did not bother about the cat.

To my horror went through to the sitting room with cup in hand sat down in the sofa only to find I had sat on a little bird. After the air turned blue the cat stayed away from me for the rest off the day :( :(

Euch!

I hate having to finish off Oscar's half-dead prey - he has brought back chicks from nests and half-dead mice, not counting his penchant for frogs.

So much better when he goes daft for a rolled up bit of kitchen foil.

Saves on expensive trips to the butcher's though. There's nothing I like better than a nice bit of carrion between a couple of slices of bread for lunch.

Don't tell your cat, although it's a bit far for it to get to!!!
We've been watching this little mouse which must be living under our garden shed or in beside the three quail that I have! Anyway, we have these bird feeders hanging up and of course the birds scatter some of the seed, so a nice free feed for Mr. Mouse!!!( at least I hope he's a Mr. and doesn't plan to bring his family and friends with him!!!). I know that he gets under the quail box because there's always seed lying when I lift it!!!
One of these days I'll catch the crafty wee devil and take him up to the field nearby!! Although I've done this before and I'm sure he knows his way back again!!!
Why be scared????

Selma the Slaughterer has gone a bit soft lately so the worst we get now is half eaten butterflies and bluebottles so not too bad. Don't miss her previous life as professional culler of blue tits and blackbirds
It's more 'mating season' round our way (  ). We had a pair of seagulls at it on the chimney pot earlier today - and they weren't being discrete!

Oscar is a very scrappy cat and loves to fight. When we first moved here our back garden had obviously been divvied up between the locals - putting him in the mix has caused any number of fights.

We walked past one of our neighbours' sons in the street once when Oscar was there too - he pointed and said "that cat's been in my house".

Another neighbour told us that he had been in their bedroom. He goes into houses and fights with cats *in their own house*.

I'm glad he has had his little pom-poms done though, and that it's just fighting he is going into other cats' houses for. Rrr.

Oscar brought one of his friends back for an early hours party.

Oscar doesn't even have a hangover, but I have just had to dyson up half a pillows' worth of feathers from downstairs and dispose of what was left of Tweety.

My dogs, Quisquenya and Kubanacan love hunting. Off they go, nose to the ground, sniffing out their prey and hoping to ambush their unsuspecting breakfast in the underbrush of the local woods, every day. So far? Eighteen rabbits, four grass snakes, nine pigeons ... and both girls completely terrified of the local hedgehog population.

I see one of your dogs has changed it's name since this morning

It was a typo! Can they come and chase you round the beach?? Your name seems to excite them for some reason.

It is unnatural and smacks of witchcraft!!! Anyway, the chicken would be on a plate soon ... and if that was the far east ... the cat would be in the stew the next week.

There were no outward signs of struggle. No blood or fur. I'm putting cause of death down as fright. No more cheese for Mickey.

Mousey was definitely dead. I even tried mouse to mouse resuscitation.

That doesn't sound very mice.

Danny (8 years) "Why would someone post a picture of a dead mouse? Why would they do it, Why would they do it?" I shook my head "dunno son".

Please tell Danny that it's a fact of our lives that Oscar brings back "presents", and that whilst I don't normally take photos of his kills and do dispose of them respectfully, the poor wee soul's posture was just too funny - sometimes an upsetting situation can be made less bad by learning to laugh at it. The mouse in question was at peace - there's no way I'd take of picture of the half-dead baby birds he brings back.

If Danny feels I'm being unfair by laughing at the dead mouse, please ask him if he would like me to remove the pictures and I will.

I would say that in some circumstances I have a "black" or "morbid" sense of humour, but would not wish to cause offence.

Stephen (47 years) wonders why someone would post pictures of a live cat?

In the interests of fairness shouldn't someone post a picture of a dead cat just to balance things up for Danny?

Gilo (38 years old). On reflection Danny needs to toughen up. I've booked him in to a tour of the local abattoir and I'm going to take him on one of my cycle rides in the rain. (After all it is the cycle of life, Right?)

No. Popping snails on purpose with your bike is animal cruelty.

An Apology

This is quite right. I'm not apologising for having done this but for pretending that I had. I don't know why I said these things, I think I was trying to look big and clever, of which I have achieved neither.

(Is chucking them over my garden wall into the back lane ok?)
