To hide or not to hide?

Post by gilo » 28 Apr 2006, 16:34

I'm in need of some advice. I'm currently hiding on this when logged in. This may be due to anxiety or not wanting to feel a little exposed, however it leaves me feeling a little dirty! Why do others hide and why do others not? Contributions to my dilemma welcome. 8-[

I'm hiding at the moment so people don't see how much time I spend here!

I log on here and just stay logged on though I cheat on PoL by spending time on another forum that I stay logged onto as well and then I flit back and forth.

So, although it looks like I'm here about 6 hours a day it's actually just 3 or 4.

Ha ha!

I don't know how to hide so I can't

Not that I want to anyway so it's not a problem but I just like to know how to do things should the occasion arise.

Go into your profile and select "hide on-line status".

Et voila.

maybe.

Scroll up to the top of the page to where wangi's lovely banner pics are and click on "profile" as written underneath the picture rather than the profile button within your posts. You'll find the options there.

I still don't understand why people hide as you can see who is hiding when they post??

Not necessarily - they could have just logged in, posted, then logged out?

And if they don't post you won't know who it is.

I was always looking in as a "guest" until I decided it was time to join. But I notice that you can look through all the posts until you log in to make a post. Other sites require registration and logging in before you can even look at who's posted. So one can be "hidden" all one wants, until one logs in.

Notice how cogent my thinking processes are this morning. Not enough drinking was done in the early hours if you ask me. So it's going to be a steady stream of bottles and cans being opened and emptied down my thrapple all day until unconsciousness takes over at the requisite moment! After lunch and the family leaves of course! :D

Merry New Year (hic!) :D

Some folk don't log in because they are at work and just want to 'lurk'. I often log in as 'hidden' because I want to read through new posts or collect/send a pm, but don't have time to post. I reckon if folk see you logged on, but you don't add to a thread or join in a bit of banter you can seem to be cold shouldering them. Or maybe that's just me
