I feel sad now, as you have reminded me of my 2 poor dead goldfish, and that beautiful yet tragic goldfish-related incident in Leeds in 1992.
Oh no...now you've set me off grieving for our poor dead Gladys the goldfish who tragically commited suicide just over 2 years ago. Maybe we should start a new "In (Pet) Memoriam" thread
OK. I'll start.

When I lived in Leeds I had 2 beautiful goldfish, Fluffy and Snowy. I loved them very much and cleaned their tank out every Saturday morning, despite the severe hangovers I suffered at that time.

However, when I left to live in London, I didn’t want to risk them dying on the journey there, so I left them in the trusty care of my mate Dave. Dave looked after them to the best of his abilities, but after a few weeks, poor Snowy sadly died - from a broken heart of course.

I returned to Leeds after 6 weeks or so, for the weekend, and visited my friend Dave. As I entered the room where Fluffy’s tank was, for a split second I noticed a brightly coloured flash in the corner of my eye. I put it down to the ubiquitous hangover.

Dave and I sat down and discussed what we had been doing in the time since we had seen each other last. Then Dave said, “I think I must have split something on the chair,â€

Gladys Foxy

We had two goldfish called Stan and Gladys. Stan sadly passed away peacefully at an early age, but good old Gladys strutted her stuff for just over 9 years. It was my habit to look in the tank each morning on my way to the kettle and say “morning Gladysâ€

We used to have a tortoise with a bad eye. His name was McVicar (so called after the infamous John McVicar who kept escaping - our McVicar was also a bit nifty). Around Autumn time late in 1981, when all good tortoises should be snuggling in for hibernation, he went missing. We hunted high and low to no avail. Then the snow came. And it snowed and snowed and.......well, snowed. It was a very bad winter. Eventually the knickers we had left on the line all winter defrosted and Spring arrived. So too did the end of our lease. It was early April and we were packed up and ready to move to a new flat. As Mr E cleaned his teeth by the bathroom window, looking out on what was no longer our garden, he uttered the unbelieveable words "There's McVicar!". Sure enough, there he was sporting about 6 inches of mud on his back strutting his stuff around the garden. Never did find out where he'd been.

PS he lived for several years in the Company of my sister who then (for reasons too many to go into here) passed him on to the RSPCA inspector with whom as far as we know, he lives happily to this day.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Ok I suspect it was the whisky...very bad habits some bad foxes have. Don't think Gladys would have smelt particularly appetising by that time anyway

How do you know when a spider's dead and not just sleeping? Did you check her pulse?

Silly me! Never thought to check her pulse!!!
The tarantula that died before this one was sitting in the same spot for about a week before I realised that it had died!!!
But now I know better!!! A dead tarantula sits in the tank with all it's legs curled in like a clenched fist!!! And of course doesn't move!!!!
So here endeth todays lesson!!!! :D
