What did you have for lunch?
What did you have for lunch?
Today I had a cheese & ham toastie. It was absolute perfection - crisp, hot (but not too hot) - the ham was delicious and the cheese melted and tasty.
Great idea for a thread
I had a tin of Heinz potato and leek soup before I remembered that my mum had handed in some of her truly historic homemade soup. What a fool.
Meanwhile, I sit here waiting for PoP to return from his forage to Scotmid for his lunch. Cooked chicken is my guess. If I closed my eyes when he eats it, I can clearly see a caveman. If I keep my eyes open, I can see a caveman in a pink shirt. I'm off for a donut oot of Fords.

I had Potatoe & Baby leek soup with a buttered italian baguette. Then I had an Activia yoghurt, a satuma, an apple and to spoil all the healthy stuff a Marsbar

Here's a story about my lunch today ...
Well I was really hungry, and in a bit of a hurry, so I popped into Boots for a 'Meal Deal'. I decided on a cheese salad baguette, a chocolate brownie and a smoothie. All for £2.99 - what a bargain. Or so I thought. I got back to the office, opened my baguette, took a bite and quickly realised there was no cheese there. None. At all. What a rip off.
Thanks goodness for the chocolate brownie and the smoothie. It didn't make for a very healthy or filling lunch though.
I'm over it now. But it took a while.

Went to Roma. Got PoP and I Lentil soup, which was very salty today. Whilst standing in the queue I noticed that the tuna and peppers was not swimming in mayo, like it usually is. I thought I would order a baguette.
Whilst the prep was progressing I got chatting to a fellow customer and distracted. I looked up too late to see my sandwich oozing "butter". This was my fault as I forgot to ask for none. Horror of horrors, when I looked closer at the butter tub, it was Stork. I though they stopped producing that muck in the 70's.

Just come back from getting my haircut Dada. Feel very relaxed as my hairdresser has got these new massage chairs that elevate and vibrate your legs and massage your back while the trainee washes your hair. Cheese on toast now I think....

Italian Wedding Soup Recipe
Ingredients
½ lb. Ground pork or turkey (or ¼ lb of each)
½ lb. Ground beef (the leaner the better)
1 egg, slightly beaten
1-1/2 cups grated parmesan cheese
½ cup breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley
12 cups chicken broth
4 cups chopped escarole
2 cup broccoli rabe or spinach
1-1/2 cups orzo or ditalini pasta
salt and pepper to taste
In a bowl, combine the meats, egg, 1 cup of the grated parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, parsley and add salt and pepper to taste. Use your hands to mix the ingredients well and form small meatballs, no more than 1 inch in diameter.
In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil then reduce to a simmer. Add the meatballs to the chicken broth and cook until meatballs are almost done (this will vary by the size of your meatballs – about 10 minutes for ½ in diameter, up to 25 for larger meatballs – remove one and cut it open to test for doneness). Scoop off any foam that formed, and add the orzo and greens to the pot. Cook for about 8 more minutes, or until the pasta is tender.
Ladle into individual bowls for serving, and add a heaping spoonful of parmesan cheese to the top of each.
