Football

Post by Gedge » 24 Jan 2006, 09:13

In an uncharacteristic outburst of macho enthusiasm at the Christmas dinner, Bob and I discussed the possibilities of a five a side football match at the Pitz. The original idea was a POL team against the Gedge all star invitation V, but a better idea would be if we could get 10 players from POL and have North v South or East v West. We are presuming the standard is going to be "low but keen" (that sums up my abilities).

Express an interest here or via PM - we're looking at some weekday evening in March once the weather has warmed up a bit.

Gedge had to remind me of this because, worryingly, I had completely forgotten this drunken conversation. What else did I agree to that night?

I'm in, so that's one team of five already. Anyone else?

Excellent response. Hopefully putting this up the board again will get a few more. I'll give it a couple of days and then set a date.

We could go for February but although I am very macho I don't like the way the ball stings on a cold night.

You seem to have conveniently forgotten the "Full Monty" night you said you were wanting to organise.

Right that's 8:

Jamesie
Portie
Robin
Bob
Bearcub
Gedge
Ed
Portyconvert

I'm sure someone can bring along a couple of Portie people who aren't POL contributors.

I'll look into Pitz availability - 7pm or 8pm on Wednesday 22nd Feb or Wednesday 1st March. Get back if any of those dates / times are no good for you.

Cheers

Bit of a hiccup. Went to enquire at the Pitz and they said Mon to Thurs tend to be pretty well blockbooked. Very difficult to get a pitch between 5.30 and 8.30 and then we would only know a week in advance.

Saturdays and Sundays are pretty quiet. Would a Sunday late morning / early afternoon do? Sundays are better for me than Saturdays. I could make Sunday 19th February; Sunday 26th Feb; possibly 19th March.

I bet Walter doesn't spend his time finding out when Hampden is free.

Off to Cardiff next weekend, can't wait. Trouble is the flight back is at 18:30 so a bit of a mad dash to the airport. May have to leave five minutes before the end - hope its not a tight finish :?

Yesterday?

It was today!

I don't know where the replay will be held, or how the money works out for a replay. Sparts need the cash. Plus I hope it doesn't end up being held at the St Mirren stadium - not like they were having home and away legs with aggregates etc.

BAE Systems had given them their car park - not that I normally have nice things to say about the UK arms trade.

Tense, tense, tense.

If the original tie in the Scottish Cup is drawn, then the replay always goes to the away team's ground, so yes, it will go to Love Street.................which is probably quite apt really, seeing as I think the replays are scheduled for Valentine's Day

Taking into account rugby and other availability issues looks like it will have to be Sunday 19th March at 11.30 am, swift pint and home for lunch.

Get those diaries out and write it in there now!

We can have another recruitment push nearer the time.

Unfortunately I'll be sitting (with the DT's no doubt) in Rome Ciampino airport at that point, having spent the night celebrating Scotland's first Grand Slam since 1990

No doubt I'll catch the next five a side fixture though.
