Walk the Walk - Moonwalk - 24 June 2006

Post by Sandra » 11 Dec 2005, 20:52

ECM and I are interested in doing the above for Breast Cancer. We were wondering if any women or men for that matter (multi sex :D ) would like to join us. Though men taking part have to wear a bra.

http://www.walkthewalk.org/

I think we'd need to each register our interest asap on the form online. The initial interest form does not guarantee a place.

I've registered my interest too. We'll have to wait and see if we get places now.

Well done you two. Don't think I'm fit enough to do anything like that, my walks with Freddie are more at the plodding pace these days I'm afraid.
I hope some of the men join you though, I'd love to see them in their bras.

As admirable as this cause is, I must admit that I felt a tinge of disappointment when I read that this was a moonwalk, as in 'by the light of the silvery etc', rather than a moonwalk, as in a full-on Wacko Jacko stylee.

Does that make me a bad person?

Aaaaooow!

ECM and I went for our first walk today in preparation for the Moonwalk, it was great - weather was gorgeous. We are planning on walking most Sundays if anyone wants to join us. :D

It was a lovely walk, the gorgeous weather helped.
I totally forgot to use my camera, Sandra, I could have taken a couple of piccies of you power walking across the Newhailes Estate!!

We walked up to Newhailes via the Brunstane Burn and then down the road towards Newcraighall and then back to Brunstane via the cycle path.

We walked for about an hour and a half in total.
Would it be reasonable to say that walk would be around 5 or 6 miles? Sandra and I will need to try to work out distances/speeds as our training goes on.
Any suggestions for walks of around 5 to 10 miles to start with would be welcome too.

We intend, as Sandra says, to try and make it a regular thing to fit in some walking every Sunday. Hope to see others coming along too.

That must be about at least 6 miles, if you start from Portobello.

Mrs Dakota and I often go walking at the weekends. Sounds like fun, and I can bring my pedometer.

That walk to the bird reserve is a nice one, Dakota. Thanks.

It'll be good to see you, Mrs Dakota and your pedometer.

This Sunday's walk will be along to Fisherrow, along Musselburgh Prom/Links and then up and over the Esk to Inveresk Village and then back to Portobello via a cycle route that skirts round Monktonhall Golf Course.

Anyone who'd like to join us can pm Sandra or myself.

I was there yesterday. Well, not the bird reserve but the boating pond beside it. It was freezing cold and half frozen over. Another family had managed to lose their remote control boat in the middle of the pond and my son had great fun being 'helpful' by trying to ram it ashore with his boat
Didn't work and at one point the guy had stripped off his socks and shoes and was about to wade in, until Homer pointed out that he'd have to wade up to his waist at the very least. They went off and returned with a friend in a kayak instead. We left before we found out if his friend capsized or not......

BRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Hadn't realised that pond was so deep. We've been down that way a few times and never seen the boats. Presumably, they'll just be on the water during the summer months.

I had my camera ready and everything

I've never seen proper boats on it ecm, just remote controlled ones and it seemed on Sunday that a lot of kids had been given one for Christmas. The solitary swan looked pretty cheesed off.

We often take Freddie for a walk there and on one visit I excitedly called Mr TG over to look at some tadpoles. As he bent over to have a look his mobile phone went plop right in to the water. He managed to fish it out and after it dried out it still worked  Mind you before he discovered it still worked I was called a few choice names

I'm okay so far but my groin is stiffening up ( ) and to be honest I'll be scared to go to sleep tonight for fear of never walking again tomorrow  . Had a great time though, good company, good weather and good exercise!

No blisters to report, but my legs are still short and fat (though not hairy  ). I was surprised that I didn't suffer any ill effects on Monday as I could hardly get out of my chair on Sunday after watching the omnibus edition of 'Eastenders'. I put it down to the therapeutic qualities of a hot bath and a very sound night's sleep on Sunday.

Such a shame I can't do the next two Sundays.. :angel12:

I have to work the next two Sundays so I think we are taking a wee breather just now?

Talk of Cramond to Porty as our next "stroll" in a couple of weeks time though. I'll keep you posted.

If anyone wants sequins, beads, ribbon, buttons etc etc etc etc for decorating their bra please let me know - I've inherited loads of that sort of stuff from my mum and will never be able to use a 1/10th of it and would love the stuff to go to a good home.

Even if it's not for the Moonwalk, if anyone needs that kind of thing feel free to get in touch too.
