...if you park up town at a ticket machine after 6.30pm you can pre-pay your parking for the morning, which means you don't have to rush to collect your car by 8am or whatever ungodly hour the meters start

I wonder if this could catch on in other spheres of life - for example, you could build up prison time over the years (a weekend here, an evening there) to create "credits" to allow you to commit a crime.

Also, could you not be allowed to retire early by working overtime now? A bit like the "time served" concept for criminals in remand.
