Incumbent Liberals have been in office for over 12 years. Some folk feel that it is time for a change.
All of the parties are in full campaign mode. Promising everything from incom tax cuts to GST cuts.
CatzVP is right, the Liberals have been embroiled in a few money scandals. But, the economy is very good, unemployment is low and interest and mortgage rates are very low. It is snowing right now and it's getting cold - but that's another topic.
The alternatives are non-existant. The NDP is a flip-flop joke, the Partie-Quebecois wants to separate and the Conservatives are not really the Conservative party, they are mosty rebranded Reform Alliance candidates who can be a pretty scary bunch.
The Progressive Conservatives were decimated in the 1992 election. They joined forces with the Reform Alliance party a couple of years ago in order to survive. They changed their name to the Conservative Party to try to soften their image.
Now, from the believe it or not file....
The Reform Alliance used to be called the Reform Party. At a party conference it was suggested that the name of the party should be changed in order to be more in line with their actions and policies. The new name was to be the Canadian Reform Alliance Party. That is, until a member of the media asked if they were truly serious about being known as the CRAP party.
Election promises are all bullsh*t anyway. As The Who once said - "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

It's so cool to have a couple of expat canucks on the ground here at POL.
For some forgotten reason, I listen to cbc over the web at work most days, so am up on the whole election thing - but I don't know my Trudeau from my Chretien so that info was most interesting.
It'll be "interesting" to see the Quebec vote and the national liberal vote, but it's your average Canadian you have to feel for - an unwanted election and a shady bunch of choices. I think, especially given the weather, I'd stay at home - or spoil my ballot!
