How do YOU want to go?

Post by Jackson Priest » 26 Nov 2005, 13:12

All this talk of dying of poverty has got me feeling a little reflective, wondering to myself about the best way to shuffle off this mortal coil.

Poverty's not the way to go for me - it's too slow, too damn lonely, and besides I like to have a little put aside for the luxuries in life - a glass of fine champagne perhaps, or a white pudding supper from Carlo's.

On consideration, I think I'll plump for crucifixion - preferably upside down. And surrounded by my friends and family of course.

So I would be interested in your answers to the question: How do YOU want to go? Only one answer permitted, and no changing your mind, as Porty would say.

JP.

without answering your query, I observe only my belief or fear that a poverty-stricken ending will be very far from being a lonely one, given the numbers of us that will be failed by our own or someone else's pension scheme (or is it spelled 'scam' in the financial world?)

You know how obituaries usually open with "Suddenly at home" or "Peacefully in the loving care of blah, blah"? I saw one some time back in the Hootsmon that started "Reluctantly".

I liked that a lot. So, however I go, I guess I'd like my obit to say "Reluctantly and making a right bloomin' racket about it".

I'd also like my rellies and loved ones to compose lots of naff verses to be published in the EN on each anniversary of my death.

I'd like to go romantically - sort of drifting upwards encased in the downy wings of two beautiful angels into the bright lights among the clouds with all my dead rellies waiting at the top, smiling a welcome. My Mum standing there with a plate of her stovies beckoning me and Phil Lynott declaring his love and regret at leaving me on the earthly plane for so long without him........quite looking forward to it now......
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

How depressing and quite probably true, Mr Magnolia. You're right: poverty seems the more likely end - certainly for me anyway. I still think it'll be a lonely way to go - you can still be lonely even if part of the masses. I should know - I was one of thousands of Hartlepool fans (I know - I thought it was strange too) at a play-off final in Cardiff this year (we lost). A more lonely experience I cannot imagine. (Particularly when I asked if there were any vegetarian hot-dogs at half time - and was given fried onions in a roll.)

JP,

I'm a bit embarrased about the above mentioned answer. It was 15 years ago that i was asked the question.

I will whisper it you on friday.
