Now that I've got your attention, how about a guest star slot on Porty Free Radio? I'm thinking 70s punk, dub?

And please update your email details, otherwise you aren't going to get pm notification!

I've got an impressive collection of 70's punk if you're missing any classic tracks.

I also have a fine collection of vinyl but it tends to be of the slightly post punk jangly guitar variety so I'm probably even less likely to be invited round than Bob. On the same topic, Mr Priest be prepared for the promised visit to go through your music collection. I know where you live!!

And Ms GRANTY I believe using words written completely in capitals on this website is an offence punishable by death (a capital offence before anyone says it).

The purpose of this post was mostly to be all chummy and matey and demonstrate that I have now met a couple of people personally.

Ah! Could be it fell victim to our avatar cull, when all avatars deemed too big were taken outside and shot.

Is that an indirect challenge or request to turn it up a bit?

Nice to see the Marlborough Street contingent getting our wee private in-jokes going.

I have a mental image of middle-aged punks the length and breadth of the country, pogoing as quiety as possible so as not to disturb the neighbours.

A bit of Anarchy in the UK and then off to Sainsbury's to get something nice for tea.

I restrict myself nowadays to headphones and energetic toe tapping, otherwise the kids complain about the noise.

I think I only have 3 or 4 MP3s on my computer. And yes they are all Valves songs. And there might be a Scars one too.

I don't own an iPod.

I have lots of vinyl.

So now I have to work out how to find MP3s of the stuff I want to play, how to download them and how to burn them on to a CD.

Hmmm...

I think it's time we published a guide to transferring vinyl to mp3 on the 'How do I?' forum. Anyone out there professing to be an expert on this? Marya, have you given this a go yet?

Can't help it - I think I've got a touch of Poppyitis!

I found this:

Convert your records to CD Part 1

and this:

Convert your records to CD Part 2

Haven't read it through myself yet, but looks reasonably straightforwardish. I just started using Audacity and as it is a free dowload that seems a good place to start.

Memories...

The Scars ? The Valves ? So much good taste in Porty. I had to write a review of The Scars gig, at Tiffany's ,for my English teacher - who was a dude called Alan Campbell, who went on to greater things. It got 'published' in a Wester Hailes community newspaper and I thought I'd made it big! Well, I was only 13...

Gedge, maybe I keep SHOUTING because I've never quite shaken off that teenage angst and rebellion.

School teachers

Haven't seen him for a few years. He was pretty cool as an English teacher and used to let us into his nightclub until all hours, then attempt to teach us Shakespeare the next day. He always acknowledged us years later. He was an integral part of my mispent youth. It'd be good to hear what he's up to.

He was an integral part of my youth too - he was my boss at Edinburgh City Lynx when I was a fledgling journo!

Haven't seen him for well over 20 years.
