Sir Harry Lauder Road - temporary closure

Post by Bob Jefferson » 21 Sep 2005, 16:56

From Graeme Paget via Lawrence Marshall:
Just a note to inform you that carriageway resurfacing works will commence on Sir Harry Lauder Road on Sunday 25th September and will continue for a period of approximately 3-4 weeks, weather permitting.

To undertake the work safely, Sir Harry Lauder Road will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the works on Sundays (all day) and mid-week between 1900hrs and 0500hrs (ie. nightshift working). The temporary traffic regulation order covers a period between 25th September and 25th November 2005 which should cater for any possible delays to the works.

The diversion route for traffic will be by way of Portobello High Street, Brighton Place, Southfield Place, Duddingston Park, Milton Road and vice versa.

Access to businesses will be maintained.

If you have any queries regarding this work, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Cheers for info, at least its opening during rush hour.

I remember walking down Sir Harry Lauder's road with my dad before it opened. 8)

Just think of it as a wee holiday Gemini - we'll take your traffic for a few weeks to give you a break  But then you can have it all back......
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Was in Brighton Place this morning - bit of a nightmare, cant imagine what would have happend, should an emergency vehicle had to get through!

Traffic was congested at all point's, although this in itself is not new.
SHLR convey's approx 18 million + vehicles per year, between 7 - 10%
are HGV's (conservative estimate) notwithstanding the frequent train
movement's, apparently huge order for pipecoaters at Leith!
Certainly a 'rumble in the jungle', when they pass by

Porty is a pain at the moment taking the influx of traffic that SHLR would normally take. :x

I can really appreciate how vibrant a community we live in at the moment. No, it's nothing to do with Radio Free Porty, but more to do with the fact that I've got extra traffic vibrating up the cobbles, past my front door and the reassuring sound of the workmen carrying out their various tasks on the Harry Lauder, drifting on the breeze and coming in my bedroom window at the back of the house. Really helps lull me to sleep

Imagine living with these lulling tones drifting in on the breeze - constantly! notwithstanding the accompanying pipe carrying trains,
shaking your house to their very 'unconsolidated foundations'

From Maureen Child:
While the very necessary and long overdue resurfacing work is being carried out on Harry Lauder Road, there are severe difficulties on Sundays which two constituents have told me about. If at all possible avoid getting in a wheeled vehicle in this area until the work is complete.

There have been severe hold ups in Brunstane Road leading to a lot of distress and anger and actual total gridlock. As a result, Brunstane Road will be closed on Sundays between 0900 and 1900 and the effects monitored. I hope you will be part of that monitoring, if you live nearby!

I have asked if temporary traffic lights can be installed on the King's Road/Seafield roundabout to improve traffic flows, at the suggestion of another constituent.

I am very well aware of the inconvenience all this must cause drivers, but I am sure you appreciate that the resurfacing work has to be done - and as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible. The intention is to keep disruption to the minimum - which is still a lot of disruption, I know.
