Well, that promise of a free drink certainly got Granty off his marks!
Such a shame I won't be there. Oh well, hope your pockets are deep enough Dada. I foresee a huge increase in forum registrations

 WHAT?!?!

Hang on, we work our donkeys off here, get no pay, not even free POL t-shirts, and now WE are supposed to buy the drinks? I think the good people of Porty should be buying US the drinks!!!

Is this a cunning first attempt to get kicked our of the establishment, young Mr D?

Or are you trying to oust us, knowing none of us will stump up and that therefore we will be forced into hiding, leaving you free to take over whilst at the same time convincing the people that you're better for them than we are? I see your plan! Just remember...I am the puppetmistress!!!! You will not succeed.

Think I'll go and lie down in a darkened room for a while.

Yeah well if the Royal Bank is sponsoring us then I'm sure we can skim something off the slush fund and get a round in. Seeing as how we've gone all corporate and that, ken eh?

I'd noticed the RBS logo on the home page.

What's the deal? Can we get cheap mortgages if we post on here often enough?

C'mon, how much did they bung us? Tell all.

Heh, no - I was just posting this because Bearcub asked me to. I've already enjoyed a couple of POL nights recently anyways.

Well, the logo is a little premature in that we haven't quite finalised the deal but we will announce details as soon as we get it tied up.

Yes, I would be fascinated to know not only how much but *where* it came from - mining diamonds in South Africa? The arms trade? Chopping trees in Indonesia? Dodgy oil pipelines? Racist loan selling in the US? If POL is taking dirty money then I want maximum exploitation for my bloodstained buck.

What?? :o
No more blazing rows?? No more washing the dirty laundry in public??
No more 20 page threads masquerading as "debates"?? I remember the days when your moral indignation could flatten all-comers. You used to be a contender!!!
You've been bought off my friend. Well and truly neutered. Dada's emasculation is complete.
You're inside the tent p*ssing out, as it were, just where the other mods want you!!!
Very disappointing.

I am not the type of dog
That could keep you waiting
For no good reason
Run a carbon-black test on my jaw
And you will find it's all been said before

I can swing my megaphone and long arm the rest
It's easier and better
To just beat it from the chest
Of desire

I could walk into this room
And the waves of conversation are enough
To knock you down in the undertow
So alone, so alone in my life
Feed me banks of light
And hang your hairshirt on the lowest rung
It's a beautiful life
And I can hang my hairshirt
Away up high in the attic of the wrong dog's life chest
Or bury it at sea
All my life I've searched for this

Here I am, here I am in your life
It's a beautiful life
My life
It's a beautiful life
Your life

Deep. I think. I'm glad I only listen to electronica.

What has happened thus far is that Bob PM'd me and I indicated :

a) my own opinion is to burn the cheque as it is dirty money and we are prostituting ourselves to cynical moneylenders

b) the decision to take on sponsorship like this should be collective - ie all forum members

c) I recognise that I've not done anything to promote POL, whereas Bob has sweated over the site

d) there are other ways to fundraise - member donations and fundraisers being but two

This is the wrong thread for this - I am going to start one for RBS.

I hope you all realise that Sept 23rd is a remarkable day for two other reasosn:

56 years ago to the day, Mr Bruce Springsteen was born

10 years ago to the day, PoP and Mrs (I will never live in Portobello) PoP tied the knot.

I think it unlikely we shall see either Bruce or PoP on the night in question or will we?

Mr Spoons mother will probably be busy on that night, and he's only going because he has taken up semi- residence there since his return from exile.
As for being scared of Dada, never, ................................terrified maybe.

I think once the gang has assembled and downed a couple, it should march on the Tides Inn.
