Got a message through my website from Hiboz telling me he has now been banned from Porty Online!

What happened?

Check out Dada's explanation on the Sacred Church thread, Jamesie.
I believe Hiboz didn't play nice and swore even more than me.

hard to believe, eh?

Cut out the middleman, and any confusion, and ask him what he said yourself.

God knows what he said it must have been grim. Whatever happened to free speech though?

Hi moncrieff and welcome to the forum. Here are some quotes from our posting guidelines, with which all users should be familiar:
Bob Jefferson wrote: Personal attacks against forum members will not be tolerated.

Your right to freedom of speech has to be balanced with your responsibility not to cause offence. You are free to debate and to disagree, but in a manner that is respectful of the rights and feelings of others.

Offensive language is not acceptable

Any member adjudged to be in breach of the guidelines may be suspended or barred as the moderators consider appropriate.
Every community, online or otherwise, has to have rules. We have only had to ban 3 or 4 members in the time the forum has operated - about one a year. I like to think we are a welcoming, friendly and tolerant community but as moderators we have a responsibility to all members to ensure that the posting guidelines are adhered to.

Sorry to those forum members who thought user "Moncrieff" was real, although there will be many of you who won't be surprised that Jamesie's pal "Hiboz" has come back with a new username and a new hotmail account. Yawn.

It's a shame though, because a debate about free speech would be interesting, but in my opinion should be conducted amongst those of us who are potty trained, not potty mouthed.

Other more pressing issues to my mind would be whether it is acceptable to try and fool the entire membership of an online community as to your identity, and the broader topic of trust in an environment such as ours.

You're well late Katster. Marya got there first in reminding me of my past life. As a recovering sinner I have a unique perspective when it comes to this debate. Unlike you, my POL soul is not Persil white, but I have done my best to repay my debt to the board with offerings of bad art and photographs of cats over the last year. Judge me as you will.

Why did you not reveal at this point that you had invited Hiboz onto the forum?

If you invited him, why did you choose to state that he contacted you "through your website" as opposed to hitting the reply button on the original invitation email?

I received a message from hiboz to the address posted on my website. Why he chose to send it to that one, rather than any other I may have, I do not know. I hope this clears up any confusion.

In retrospect, it would have been courteous to introduce hiboz to the forum. Should I choose to invite others to the forum in future - something I would now think carefully before doing - I would ensure I did so.

The point at which you referred to your website was the first instance of any admission of a link between you.

Given that there was no indication previous to this admission that you knew each other, I'm sure you can understand how it would look that you were still unconnected even once you had admitted to one-way contact from Hiboz.

I appreciate that you have answered my questions to the best of your ability. I have no further questions at this time. I salute the nature of your answers and apologies in the same spirit in which they were given.
