August 6th (Hiroshima day) - August 9th (Nagasaki day)
Members of Edinburgh CND will be joining others around the country in a fast to remember the nuclear destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by American bombs in 1945.
The fast will start at 8am on Saturday 6th and finish at 1100 on Tuesday 9th.
The main focus of the fast will be at Evergreen 230 Portobello High Street (No 26 bus) where there will be an exhibition. However on the Saturday we will be outside St Johns Church, Princes Street, from 9am to 4pm.
We would like as many people as possible to join us. You can choose to fast for all or part of the time. You can visit those who are fasting. You could help put up the exhibition beforehand. You could contact the press before or during the fast to give publicity to what we are doing. You can join us outside St Johns, on the Saturday, where we will be having a vigil (from 9am to 1230). There will also be a stall and banners/posters on the fence.
If you can help, in any way, please contact Janet at Evergreen, 07981713088 / 0131 657 2257 or come along on the Saturday.
We will also be joining the events at St John's to launch the 60/60 anthology (produced by Scottish CND in collaboration with 'Survivors Press Scotland' ) to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the bombing .
Saturday 6th August 12.30 -2.00 pm with Tessa Ransford and Ghazi Hussein Princes (organised by the Festival of Spirituality & Peace with the Consulate General of Japan.)
Tuesday 9th August at 11.03 am (exact time bomb was dropped on Nagasaki) with AL Kennedy, Ewan McGregor, Ghazi Hussein and many more.
