Opening up in Brighton Place, bono something.

Can't see this being successful, but will try it out! some competition for Sizzlers though.

Also is it just me or is the Chi Wai pretty poor now since its been taken over?

Robin,

We've been in the Chi wai a coule of times since the takeover. I thought the food was still very good but I miss the prevoius owners/staff.
They were all so friendly and a bit mad.
It was always very entertaining.

Chi Wai is back as chef - should have posted this weeks ago as I promised  [why did you not remind me, Lizzie?!].

Must admit that I've never noticed a difference in the food, but I too miss Joe & Co.

He used to pour a pint of lager for Dad and a pint of OJ for the kids and then......... and then..... and then......I can hardly bring myself to type it.... HE USED TO SERVE THE LAGER TO THE KID AND THE OJ TO THE DAD.

You had only just got over that one when Mum came along with the Rice joke.

I need to know the mum joke now. As a recent dad I can apply this humour in real life...

Someone else will know it. I don't want all the glory.

However, I'm warning you; if you found the lager joke a side-splitter you better take your laptop to A&E and read about the Rice joke there. :D

I know the lager joke is bad but I did laugh out loud. Need to keep that one in the memory banks for a few years yet but will do it!

Chi Wai is not good since it has been taken over. The Chicken, green pepper and black bean sauce used to be the best ever now is is weak, watery gloop. Definitely now a fan of 108 - noodles with black bean sauce and chilli. No comments Porty please!!! :D

Is this where she would dish everyone up a reasonable portion of rice at the table and then give the last of your group about 10 grains and say "Is that too much for you?" or something like that?

Almost, its where she used to lift out just one grain and place it on the plate. Have a theatrical , comical pause and wait for the people at the table to laugh. Which they always did, much to my amazement.

We used to ask for more lager and then more rice just so we could all start laughing again!

They certainly were, always up for a laugh. Well at least up until the time PoP and I went in p ished and kept calling the order line from our mobiles and every time "lager joke", who was in on his own, went to pick it up we hung up.

Give him his due tho, it only took about 8 dials before he worked it out. No rice or lager joke that night.

I remember going one night when I was about 10 with my Dad to pick up a takeaway. He thought it was hilarious to speak to the guy in a pseduo chinese accent. "Huro, I am heeeeere for my mear" I dont know what they might have done to his food. Yes he was drunk.

It's opening on Wednesday this week. It's looking pretty smart inside.

It's at 15-17 Brighton Place and the tel. is 669 8000.

Looking forward to giving it a try.

Anyone else try the new restaurant last night? We ordered a take-away which took them much longer to prepare than they estimated so the first night must have been a busy one for them. On the first occasion Homer called in for our order, he spoke to a guy who had ordered at 8.30 and was still waiting at 9.40.
Homer was pleased with his choice but I was disappointed in my dish. The sauce was tasty, but at just under £10 (not including any accompaniments), I expected King Prawns as advertised and not wee muddy tasting shrimps :(
The inside looks good, according to Homer, but the video screen and modern Asian pop music wasn't quite the dining atmosphere he likes, the old foggy that he is
Looks like the Prince Balti will be keeping our custom for now.

Oh dear, that doesn't sound so good, M.

We tend to use the Shahi Manzil up at Willowbrae who are not always that prompt but the food is always fantastic.

Was looking forward to having a sit-in right at the end of the street though.
It'll be interesting to hear from anyone who sat in last night to see what they thought.

Belated congratulations Nads! :occasion7:

Didn't mean to be that negative. Homer's meal was really nice and the only problem with mine was I got wee not very nice tasting shrimps instead of the big juicy King Prawns I was looking forward to......and it was the first night afterall. Hope you have a nice 'anniversary' meal.

We were in Bonoful last night and had an excellent meal, lots of fresh herbs and spices and beautifully cooked chicken and veggie dishes. Really good presentation and service.

They used to run the take away at Willowbrae and if they maintain the standards we experienced last night they'll soon establish a great reputation!

Used for first time tonight - excellent food and brilliant nan bread (beats King Balti hands down)
