Dear All,
As a result of work necessary to meet the statutory requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, Portobello library will be closed from 9.00 a.m. on Monday 4th July until 8.00 p.m. on Monday 15th August. This will allow for the installation of automatic doors, a lift and an upstairs disabled toilet.
A mobile library will be stationed by the Bank of Scotland to the side of the Town Hall during this period. You can, of course, also use any other city library to, for example, order or return books during this time.
I'm sorry that the facilities on offer will obviously be much more limited while this work is carried out - but we do need to do it.

Update from Portobello Library:
Portobello Library, Rosefield Avenue re-opens to the public on Monday 15th August.
All the usual services will be restored on 15th, apart from the Drop-In classes (which will resume in September) and the Weight Watchers class (which will begin on the 24th August).
Item requests may take longer than usual as they have surplus stock, not on the shelves, which they hope will gradually issue once the Library re-opens. Power will be down again over this weekend, but the mobile library van will be open. There are no internal phones, Intranet, Email or Talis from 4pm Friday (tomorrow) to 10 am Monday. Please contact the Library as before, on the emergency phone line tel no 669 2344, until Tuesday 16th.
The internal building work will continue until the end of September, with the lift and staff facilities being installed last. However, automatic doors and the disabled toilet will be completed by the end of next week.
