Anyone got one of these they'd like to rent out for a few hours?
My machine is in desperate need of a new installation of XP - one of the reasons being the difficulties I'm facing in burning CD's - but with about 10gb of data that I'd like to keep, I need to find a temporary home!
Any help appreciated.

1. You could invest in a dvd r/w for £39 quid from Ideal in Bruntsfield. Then backup your data to 3 dvds.
2. You could partition your hard drive and only install XP to the new partition, then re-partition once you have installed XP.
3. My mp3 player has 10gb spare which you can use.

The main reason for doing this is I can't get my own MP3 player to connect. It's a cheap and nasty one though, so maybe that is the problem, but to be honest I reckon the OS is frazzled. Re partitioning is an option but messy. It's a laptop so internal DVD/R+W isn't really an option.

Dada - maybe we could meet at some point and try your MP3?

Yeah sure! I have another recommendation though - Porto Phone. That shop next door to Porty's has a couple of very nice men running it who do computer work all the time. You could simply take your laptop in and ask them for 10GB of temporary storage (which I'm sure they would do for you) or get them to do your re-install too, telling them you don't want to lose your data.Jamesie wrote:Thanks for replies so far!

Obviously they will charge you but it would remove any of the hassle as they are very close to you.
