my Mancunian stag weekend

Phew.

My pal Ewan just had his stag weekend in Manchester (he's from Wales and went to uni here in Edinburgh, so don't ask) which I am just back from.

Seems to be an industry these days - we were sterotypical I guess, but a good time was had by Stag and all - dog track, pub crawl, karting, meal, pub crawl.

The guy that looks like Rick Wakeman is the best man.

I came 12th out of 17 at the Karting. There were the petrol heads who jostled to shave off 1/10 seconds from their lap times, and the cautious types at the back doing comedy skids. Me == in the latter group.

I missed BB and Beach Baby a great deal; in fact as I strolled round the Trafford Centre this morning having finally got hold of a toothbrush, I was a little tired and emotional!

Aye! Aye! There's always someone there with a camera to record you making a complete prat of yourself isn't there?

And there was me bemoaning the fact that Homer and I couldn't move in the Grassmarket last night for Hen and Stag parties (and that was at 6 o'clock!). "What is Edinburgh coming to ?"I thought. Glad to hear Manchester is getting its share too

We saw a few hen parties but thankfully there was no intermingling, anyway I had my ring of power to ward them off. The ones in our restaurant last night were amusingly dressed as cowgirls, complete with hankies, boots and stetsons. Yee-haw.

Ahhh, Belle Vue... Brings a homesick tear to my eye... Went to watch stock car racing there when I was two. What I remember is horrible noise and being wrapped up in a blanket and falling asleep. My brothers go to the dogs quite a lot though

.

Manchester suffers terribly from the "stag"/"hen" thing - hen parties mostly in the village, which seems particularly unfair.

I am off to Newcastle this weekend for a friends Stag. I think the only activity we have planned involves beer!

I was on a stag do in Newcastle not this weekend, but the one before... Also I was the poor sod best man that had to get it all setup in the first place

The stag was loving the Oompa Loompa costume I bought for him! Nah, seriously it did go down well!

We done some paintball on the Sunday, and in the last game I got bloody hit to hell in the head - bleeding and the bump sticking out an inch during the night. Not fun!

Excellent! I think I would have preferred paintball to karts, but would still have sucked at it.

Nope... All I got was a panorama of the Tyne & bridges out of the hotel window that didn't work out too well; a B&W of Bigg Mkt at night which was a bit too quiet; a shot of the Life Science Centre from a different location; the forest during paintball; and St James' Park.

... Oh and same graffiti too of course - anti gay on Newcastle's main gay street, where the hotel was too.

Need to catch an early train down one Saturday...

We never did get round to strippers (all closed on a Sunday night after 10)! Would recommend a banquet at one of the restaurants in China Town (Stowell Street) - good food, good prices.

If it's a two nighter then spend one around Bigg Market, and the other night down at the Quayside.

Can't go much wrong anywhere - lots of good places, with tidy staff working the bar. Locals friendly too, although an amzing number of hen and stags around. We were in the new Jury's hotel and it was swarming!
