Holidays with babies

Rose and I are going to head off somewhere this year for a wee holiday. We will be taking young Jack with us (6 months old in a couple of weeks).

Does anyone have any suggestions / recommendations as to friendly places for babies (and parents

) or nice places to go?

Doesn't have to just be in Scotland!

we went to Budapest when neo-Dada was 3 months. Everyone there loves babies and couldn't have been more helpful

if you're thinking about somewhere hot and sunny then Thomson (I think) have places where you can hire highchairs, order baby food, and all the other stuff you need in advance to make it all much easier for you.

get Rose to check out www.mumsnet.com if she hasn't already - a wealth of info and chat and they have a bit where holidays are recommended, both in the UK and abroad

We took a baby to Spain who was 16 weeks old and a couple of years later a 6 month baby to Florida. No problem whatsoever - treated extra special. Just go for it!8)

We went a couple of years ago with an 11 month old baby and stayed at a Thomsons family hotel and it was excellent. We were able to book a high chair and cot, and ordered a baby pack (nappies, wipes, and nappy sacks) which were waiting in our room on arrival (much better than trying to pack them in a case). BTW, it was Majorca, which is ideal for travelling with children as the flight time isn't too long!! Some advice, give them a bottle 15 minutes before take off, send them to sleep for half the flight!!

We've been to Majorca twice with small ones. can't quite remember where but it was on the side away from rather than near to the airport - we all thought it was great. Apartment across the road from the sea, child friendly establishments and soft-play places too.

I think the length of the flights is your main factor - single hop if you can, cos changing planes can be a nightmare for all concerned!

did you make a decision? Should I be feeling jealous in a month or so as I head off for my week in Welsh Wales? (assuming we haven't been consumed by Geldoff's descending hordes by then of course)

Sorry, forgot to mention the decision. We ended up deciding to stay within driving distance, didnt fancy a flight just yet (although Rose has taken Jack to Cardiff and he was fine). We ended up going to Inverness and staying at the Clansman on the banks of Loch Ness. We did the touristy stuff, did some walks, visited Urqhuart Castle and the boat trip etc. etc. We also went swimming Sunday morning at the AquaDome, brilliant for kids of all ages.

Hotel was nice, friendly and did all they could help baby. It was quiet and the best thing of all was that the baby monitor we have worked in the bar so we had some Mummy and Daddy time with the help of Mr Magners, Mr Tennents and Mr Daniels.

Here is Jack and I at Urqhuart Castle, he even decided to smile for the camera!

My friend is just back from Crete ierapetra (sp) and was in the Petra mare Hotel... he had his 6 month old son and there was loads of other kids too! Might be worth looking into!
